  • Shoulder Mount Swelling?

I recently got my shoulder mount (YAY!) but the next day I had some significant swelling where the 'crook' between the collarbone and neck.  I figured I just overdid it in my excitement, iced it and laid off that move for a few days.  Started working on it again yesterday, being sure not to overdo it this time, but still I have some swelling and it's tender to the touch.  And it's weird that it's only on one side ( I am practicing mounting on both).  I have Veena's lessons and am sure I'm doing it correctly.  There's no pain while doing the move.  I'm used to the usual hickeys, bruises, etc. that usually come with poling and new moves, but I've never had swelling before.  Any advice? Is this a normal side effect of learning this move?  Or am I doing something wrong?  Any advice would be much appreciated. =)

Hate to say this but a video is about the only thing that is going to help here.

As you were going up into the SM the pole probably rolled onto the collar bone the wrong way and created tissue swelling. No it is not normal, but it does happen. Your skin is swelling to prepare that spot for the possibility of this happening again, its telling you there is a problem and protecting the bone. It will take about a week and a half for that spot to be ready to go. If you push it more on the same spot before it is ready you can cause some serious tissue damage and possible collar bone damage as well. Ice is good, but refraining from it for a bit is better. It will get better 🙂

Thanks guys!  If I had a camera I would post a vid but unfortunatly right now that's not possible.  I'm definately going to lay off the SM for a while.  When I feel like it's safe to attempt again I guess I'll just try to figure out what I'm doing different on that side.  Weird that it is on my 'strong' side too, I would have figured something like that would have happened on my weaker side.
