Does anyone have useful tips for the shoulder stand?? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif I've never been able to pull these off (or forearm stands, for that matter). I just can't get leverage to get up.

I can do a controlled headstand press with both straddled and straight legs, and I can do a backward rollover (fish flop?) on both sides just fine that uses the same body positioning, so I'm positive it's a coordination issue of some sort. My legs seem to flop over to the side of my head and I fall over whenever I try to get up, lol. I will add a video tonight if I can but in the meantime I would appreciate some help.

This tutorial by EmotionCatcher helped me:

I kind of had to play with the positioning of the bottom arm. It also clicked for me after I made sure to further roll back on to the shoulder until my balance felt secure enough to lift my legs.

Is the bottom/straight arm palm up or palm down? I always feel tempted to turn it palm up but that seems wrong even though it feels better to me..

Yes, it's palm up. I have a lesson for it here if you like.

Make sure that you're not putting all of your weight on the shoulder, but rather really push through with the hand that is on the floor.

I just had a hand balancing with rebecca starr….. her balance is unreal

When we did shoulder stands she had us start from the side and go into a straddle

So laying on your side on the shoulder your trying to stand on…. that arm (elbow at right angle, elbow towards hip hand out away from you)…… keep palm up your balance is pushing into the ground through your upper arm……. your opposite arm comes around and goes kind of in fron of your face.. maybe a little further up

then sweep your top leg up towards you face so your in a straddle….. use the back leg to lift your hips and then just try to straddle up or just try to get your feet off the ground and find that balance and continue to lift

I'll try to find a video that she does it
