    Hello Veeners,

So the other day I was practicing going into brass monkey from a CAR and something really strange happened. I was in my CAR and when I reached my hands to grasp the pole using a flag grip my upper arm (right shoulder) felt like it popped out for a second/it felt out of place and then popped right back in. It hurt briefly, but it freaked me out more than anything. I didn’t have any pain after it “popped” back in and I kept on practicing. My shoulder didn’t hurt the next day and it still feels fine, so I don’t think I need to get it checked out. I’ve done this move many times and it’s never happened before so I’m thinking it was a freak accident of some sort.

Has this happened to anyone else before??

If you havent previously dislocated your shoulder you probably managed to maneuver the biceps tendon in ur shoulder out of place then back in.  it does feel wierd tho, but it can happen.  make sure ur warmin up and stretching your muscles real good too just to be on the safe side.

What you experienced could also be a subluxation of your humerus. It means that the bone under your bicep (your humerus) slightly popped out of the joint, but then quickly moved itself back into place. It's like a dislocation, very similar, except a dislocation means that the bone does not go back into place. It's really easy to check if this happened, though. You can perform an apprehension test. To do this, raise the arm that the injury happened on (for example, the right arm) parallel to the floor, and right out to your side. Then, bend it at the elbow, to your fingertips are pointed to the ceiling. You arm should make a backwards 'L' shape. After achieving that shape, move your forearm backwards while keeping the upper arm in the same position. You are simply pitching the "L" shape back, so your palm faces a little more to the floor. If you had a subluxation, this will make your shoulder feel as if it will pop out again. It won't, but you'll feel as if it will. That is why it is called an apprehension test.

Now, if you perform that test and it feels like it'll pop out again, just go and visit your doctor to make sure everything is okay.

Sorry for this whole post sounding all technical, but I saw it and figured I'd give my two cents, and if anything was still wrong (I see Kklove helped!), help a bit! I only know this because of what I'm studying in school, so I'm sorry if none of this makes sense.. you might be able to just google what a shoulder subluxation apprehension test is, though. Hope I could help!

I'm in school for Obstetrical Sonography (ultrasounds of the fetus). We do a lot of anatomy stuff (ugh!), and things like that come up.

Thanks Jessica! I tried the subluxation apprehension test and I think my shoulder feels ok. It’s really sore right now just from poling in general so it’s a little hard to tell, but I’ll try it again in a couple days.
