Show me how you walk!
Posted by darling dearest on November 14, 2012 at 11:12 pmWhile it's easy just to walk around the pole, I am still exploring my own sense of style within that fundamental pole walk.
What does yours look like? Do you play with your hair? Do you touch yourself? Show me. 😀

I generally just walk, chest up and shoulders back, but recently… my style is getting a bit slower, and a bit stronger, so I've noticed that my feet have begun to do "the drag" which also works really well in heels. Point the toe and drag it good while you're stepping into your other foot! And don't forget to really get comfortable with those hips, because it looks damn good when you drop the hip of the dragging foot (and subsequently, push up and out on the one you've got your weight on), and it does good things for your butt. 🙂

I always mess with my hair! Don’t even realize I am until I have seen my footage.

It depends on the genre of music, the style of dance and whether I’m in heels or not. Let the music move you and it will come naturally 🙂

oh, gosh, walking can be tough lol you can practice walking across a room to dancing around the pole or against a wall. i do a "model walk", exxaggerating crossing my legs. i do what i call an "attitude stomp" which is the same as my "model walk" but i lift my knees higher. there's a cha-cha walk where i step out to the side as i walk. then there's good ol' reliable, the toe drag.
i just don't walk around the pole. you can treat it as a dance partner and do a turn or some kind of flourish away from the pole to make it more interesting if you're putting together a routine. interpret your music through your walk.
when you're ready, then throw in your hands, arms, and hair flips then you can get adventurous and mix in turns, better yet, get those heels on.
hope this helps https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

If it's a sexy walk I like to drag my feet and stick out my chest and butt. If it's a contemporary music walk then I try even harder than normal to be on my toes and keep them pointed.

I am your typical trained dancer who walks on the balls of their foot or does the lyrical foot drag. I don't think my foot knows how to un-point.

I get angry at myself whenever I notice how I walk: ALWAYS on the balls of my feet and pointed toes, shoulders back, chest forward, tummy in, head straight. Your typical ballet dancer. Not that I do ballet, but folk dance is quite similar. My instructor noticed that, she says she'll never get it out of me 😀 I wish I could do the sexy toe-dragging hip-swinging walk, hrrr….

GiedreB- I don't think that's a bad thing! It adds to your style 🙂

https://www.studioveena.com/users/view/4f4284d9-65c8-445a-9126-32920ac37250, Its not a bad thing at all! Once a dancer always a dancer.
I use to wish i was that little sexy walking vixen like Alethea but then i realized that my dancer "mannerism" were what made me stand out. So instead of feeling awkward trying to be someone I'm not, i embraced my inner dancer. Now I'm the dubbed "dancer" of the class and my teacher actually told me she would love to learn what i know. So love it and make it your own. 🙂 -
GiedreB…. I do the same thing. I have had people ask me why I dance the way I do. I don't even know how I came about doing it. I was a exotic dancer for 4 years and just developed it as my own personal style and it worked! The hubs always picks on me when I practice, he says I look so snobby but sexy.

I always start out with good intentions and then my body reminds me that I have no balance! It's better hanging onto the pole, but I feel like Sandra Bullock in that movie where she's walking all sexy and then falls on her face…
