Site search
Posted by Webmaster on February 2, 2014 at 8:31 pmI have been working on the site search and how it weights your searches. Initial tests seem to be returning much better results. If a few of you had some time to test searching, especially if you had trouble with it before it would be greatly appreciated.

Can I do an advanced search? I can’t find any options. There’s one field and the results turn up in cathergories.

We only have the one search field right now. We are using a search engine designed and built by amazon so we have a lot of control over weighting and we are trying to find the right formula before moving into anything else.

I just tried one term I searched last week (twisted grip) and have got MUCH better results this time. It used to be that whenever I used the search function the same 20 or so really old threads would always show up on the first page no matter what I typed in. But yes this is so much better!

I re-tried a search today and it did work a whole lot better! I was looking for a thread and searched for two words that I knew were in the title. Before, all kinds of results came up, everything with those words in it. So then I didn’t find what I was looking for. But now it seems that you have weighted up titles, which made me find that actual thread.

I am still having issues on my iPad that search doesn’t allow me to type in the search box. It’s like it is a read only files. Any thoughts? I am not able to update to the new OS but I didn’t see how that would be an issue. Currently using 5.1.1 IPad is in desktop mode and not mobile – which is great. Let me know if I can help troubleshoot. I use default browser but have the same issue in others on iPad -Safari, TagDiskHD+. Not sure this helps. Let me know if I can provide any additional info. Thanks! 🙂

KCSuzy – iOS 5.1 has a couple bugs in Safari. The infield label that I use in the search box that was supported in iOS 5.0 and previous as well as everything from 6 on forward doesn’t work in 5.1.x. You’ll see this bug in all browsers on your 5.1.x device because all 3rd party browsers are required to use safari to render websites.
