I'm about 4'11" and I had been practicing on a 50mm xpole.  I'm a beginning intermediate- I'm now inverting and getting more confidence with my geminis etc…however, I find thai my grip has been causing me to not progress with moves that require strong grip with my hand.  Should I switch to 40mm? My hands are pretty small.  What do you fellow polers think?

Tough call. Have you had a chance to use a 40mm? I just bought a 45mm after poling on a 50mm for a little over a year. I guess my hands are smaller than I thought(I am 5'1 with a small frame), I didn't notice a difference. I was expecting that, wow, I have a much better grip feeling, but it feels the same to me as the 50mm. I wonder myself if I should have gotten a 40mm. The downside would be thigh and leg holds. I was pleased I didn't feel much difference with those(except the superman). If you could find someone who had a 40mm and try it, that would probably help in your decision making. Buying a new pole is such an investment, it took me 2 months of research to decide on my 45mm TG. I am very happy with it.

Do your thighs touch? If so, I say go for the 40. You'll adapt well enough and your hands will love you for it.

I appreciate your opinions and tips. I have tried 45 and 40mm at my class. It seems like my grip is stronger and I can hold poses longer and better. When I stand with my legs together, my thighs barely touch near my crotch if that’s what you mean. I’ve trimmed down a bit since practicing pole and other exercises and a healthier diet. Any way. I will do a class and really test the difference between 45 and 40. Pole is quite an investment. I don’t plan on buying till I sell the one I have now.
