I started poling back in Feb of this year at a studio with lacquer covered stainless poles. In March I bought my own xpole (chrome, 50mm). I have always struggled with grip on this pole, as opposed to the poles at the studio. I did get used to my pole quite a bit, but I do require quite a long warm up before I can really stick to the pole. With that said, I can have great grip then walk away from the pole for only a moment, usually to watch a video or lesson, only to come back and find I have no grip at all. Is this a skin issue, a mental issue, hand/ knee grip issue, or what? I can completely clean the pole or leave it as is, with same result. I just wish that after nearly a year of poling that I wouldn’t be fighting the finish on my pole and needing grip aid somewhat regularly if learning a new move.

Hi – Just to let you know you’re not alone! I have been to another lesson tonight where I just cannot grip the pole and feel it’s me either sweating too much or a mental thing. Some of the girls suggested a gel or wax for your hands, or dry hands liquid which I’m gonna try. All the girls in the class said no to gloves as they make things worse. This is holding me back as I don’t have the confidence to complete holds as I’m, sliding down the pole which is also an X-pole 50mm. If you find a cure…. let me know!!

You are not alone! I have the same issues with chrome and even Titanium and brass in the cold weather. I step away for a minute and then my body has cooled enough that I can’t grip. I’ve been using my Brass x pole this week and started mixing Dew point with Mighty grip on top. I can now grip the pole cold! However, I haven’t tried it on my chrome or titanium. On the brass it works amazing! Next time I dance I’ll put my chrome up and give it a try!!

Ok, here is one for us! I live in a cold climate. Call me crazy but cold poles are what I stick to…go figure! My issue is sweaty hands! I have tried Dry Hands, Mighty grip, Firm Grip and ITac 4. All work temporarily, then my hands get slippery. I have started to try antipersperant (Arrid xxx dry spray) but still have the same result. I have layered the antipersperent and the mighty grip, still with the same results. I have the 50mm crome and 45mm New brass, x stages. Any tips?

I had the same problem with my pole at home. I’ve tried so many things but the only method that works on my chrome x-pole is to clean it first with 100% rubbing alcohol which i have to buy from a Spanish pharmacy because it’s illegal in England. Once this has dried i spray the pole lightly with an extra hold hairspray. I use dry hands too and this gives a fantastic grip even on a cold pole.

I made a video with some tips that work for me. I suggest starting with a clean pole, I use stream to clean my poles. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/52ab9aba-a310-41ab-83d6-636d0a9aa0eb
