Have you tried cleaning the pole with a steamer? And have you made sure to fully warm your body and pole? Having warm skin is important for grip.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

It would be good to point out not to wear lotion of course, unless your suicidal. 😉

Are you SURE that steaming your pole is a good idea? I would be VERY CONCERNED that the steam will penetrate through the holes and joints, then condense into water INSIDE your pole causing RUST on the steel parts.

I agree steam is great for removing grease but I think it's potentially damaging and also slightly dangerous as steam irons and steamers are designed to be held against a flat surface not waved in the air so I won't be trying this.

I use my steam cleaner on my pole after i've done the floors, surfaces etc and it works great at cleaning the pole. I also use plain old windex as well in between.

Where is your pole being kept? It it'a in the kitchen (often the biggest room in some places) then it'll get a lot more grease on it.

Are you cleaning it before each practise and in between moves?

I doubt very much whether X-pole recommends the use of steam on a pole. For Platinum Stages I'd assume it would be OK as their poles are stainless steel and won't rust (like cutlery) but I would definitely not try it personally as I've seen the pitting and rust spots that can form on the surface just from storing your poel in a damp environment like a garage. Chrome/Titanium plated poles and water (even in the form of steam) are unlikely to get along well.  I'm sure someone from X-pole tech support will be along shortly to give us the official line.

You wipe off the steam right away, it doesnt sit in the pole at all. One of their recommend cleaning methods for new poles was soap and water 😉

I'm looking at the BACK PAGE of the instructions that came with my X-pole and it says

Cleaning – Your pole will need regular cleaning as you use it.
Clean your pole with a glass cleaner or similar non-abrasive cleaner.
    NEVER use water.

Just like that, in CAPITALS and BOLD print.

Spinny, I said…WAS a method, not IS. I have been using steam to clean for a year now…. on all of my poles, all of the finishes. No troubles. Thanks for your concern though. X-pole has also stated to aviod using glass cleaner…..

You don't let the steam sit or accumulate it only takes a second before you wipe it down. I've had grip aids gunk up the holes and joints also discolor my pole. Steam was the ONLY thing that took of residue from grip aids.

It also mentiones not to use certain types of chalk and powder.

Can I offer you a sample bottle of a 100% natural pole cleaner?

If you'd care to send me your address please?

Warming up your body is everything, especially when it's new its hard to stick. I use to wonder why i coudn't climb the pole and stuff but after you warm up, break a little sweat, you're good to go!

I use rubbing alcohol and a microfiber towel. I make sure my pole towels are washed without fabric softener and also air dried after washing.

I want to try the steam method but don't have a hand held yet.

Like others say… warm up… warm the pole… don't use lotion right before pole. Make sure you skin isn't too dry. It's a delicate balance but you will find what works best for you with trial and error.
