Ok, I am so over it! I cannot go more than about 30 seconds poling without my pole becoming too slippery to use. I have tried hand grips, powder, alcohol, and I still have to wipe it down ALL the time. I want to be able to do a complete dance or song without this problem…. 🙁 What's the trick ladies?!?

I find that the solution is different for every person as we all have grip issues for different reasons. I have to wipe down my pole alot when I go hard in class or in practice at home. I have really sweaty palms and the only thing that has helped me has been using an anti persperant hand grip called tite grip. I still have to wipe the pole down during practice but i no longer have to wipe it down between every move and spin.

Slippery pole is a phenomenon that normally goes away as pole becomes second nature and your grip is rock solid, plus you no longer have those big awesome adrenaline surges that make you clammy.  🙂  Until then, antipersperant, yoga chalk, tacky gloves…. lots of things will work.

What kind of pole do you have?  What material and diameter?

Girl I feel your pain…I have a 50 mm chrome. I got it because I thought it would be a good idea to learn on the biggest size, so I could pole on any size pole if it came down to it. I liked it at first but now I can't stand it and have issues ALL THE TIME with it. It's just too shiny and new still despite me having it 2 years. I am always telling my husband I wish there was some way to wear down the chrome on it with a lotion or solvent or something.

Our poles at the studio that I go to are 45 mm and are soooo much easier to use because they have nice wear and tear on them, which no doubt seems to make them easier to grip. I can nail moves consistently at the studio but then I get home and it's no go ALL THE TIME. I'm thinking about getting a 45 mm in TG when we move into a house in a few months because this slippery business is driving me batty!!!!

However, I've found that fully stretching for a good 20-30 mins before hand and 10-15 mins of dancing around the pole before doing tricks on the pole does help "some" but not by much. A completely cold pole +cold muscles=major slip city.

I had slip issues when I started years ago. They did go away when my grip got stronger. I just got a brand new chrome 50mm and I stick just fine to it. I use on my body being so dry. It helps.

I'm going to start trying drysol this weekend (when I get the prescription picked up.) I can let you all know how it goes, but someone else tried it and said it stopped her sweaty hands. No matter how strong my hands get, they won't grip because of sweat, so I can relate.

I have a 45mm chrome and I love it so much more than the 50 in class but thanks for all your advice…I’ll let you know if it improves…

Try an iron set to steam. Worked for me

I am a big believer in finding the right grip aid/antiperspirant combo. At some point, the force needed to generate the friction required to keep a 50-70 kg weight on a vertical metal pole with X amount of sweat acting as a lubricant becomes superhuman.

@Blaque – How often do you iron steam your pole? I tried it once and it seemed to help but didn't last. Do I need to do it before every pole session?

I feel your pain, but I have a question to you girls, how do you train to make your grip stronger??specific moves or just normal routine practice would help?

Routine practice does help, but you can also use a powerball and grip tools to make it stronger as well.
