  • Slippy pole — what to to?

Competition/Showcase coming up on Saturday in Boston, and on a hot day like today, the poles are so slippery (we had a couple of days like that last week).  Couldn't even climb, not even with grip on appropriate surfaces.

Any suggestions for what to do on performance day if the poles are slippery?  They will be cleaned between each performance.

Normally I use something like Dry Hands, rarely use iTac betcause when it melts, it's slippery too.

Why is it slippery, too cold, too sweaty, pole finish? When I do a performance I use Cramers Firm Grip spray. You will stick like a fly on a glue trap. If sweat is your issue I'm  unsure if that will help. You would need to stay with products for sweat like dry hands. iTac is a no no for sweat!

Do you have access to Dirty Girl Poletice? I don’t have normally sweaty hands, but my chrome pole is still new enough that it’s slippery and DCP works great. The bonus is that you can put it all over your body so it could help with knee holds, feet issues, etc. I believe that Tite Grip is another popular (and rather easy to obtain) pole grip that should help.

You may have to layer grips in order to find something that will keep you from slipping.

I can vouch for dirty girl poletice for excessively sweaty skin too. I have used it and I really like it. When I’m dry, a LITTLE , rubbed in, followed by a dab of dry hands seems to give me some good stick. Something about that combo feels pretty good to me when I use TINY amounts of both.

You just spray it on where ever you need it. Yeah, you wouldn’t need it for the sv pole 🙂

It could also be the way you are breathing! Unknowingly ,many of us have the tendency to hold our breath and be tense during the hard part of the execution (like certain lifts or during inverts). Improperly breathing while lifting can increase blood pressure leading to light headedness , dizziness , nausea….To avoid this, inhale in the easy parts and exhale in the hard parts( when the muscles worked are shortening) of a repetition. Changing your breathing technique will become very helpful with spins, inversions and climbing, and should decrease the amount of sweat and greater endurance on the pole!!!
