Anyone else feel as if they take a little longer than othes to catch on? Has anyone just really begin to get moves down packed after a year or so. I dunno, for some reason I don’t seem to be progressing too much. It will be 5 months for me this month and all I can really do is spin. I hit an miss with my inverts, and when I’m able to get up there I get so scared. I’ve lost 6lbs in 3 weeks from healthy eating, the gym, and a Jillian Michaels DVD. I’ve been working on my strength in the gym, lifting and all, but no major progress. I get about two good pole practices per week, so I should be progressing, but nothing, just the same old moves.

Don’t stress about it! I was the exact same way, and was actually the slowest person in my class. A lot of it was fear, I think. Especially with inverts. It took me about a year to feel comfortable doing a cross-knee release, and just a bit less that that to do an inverted crucifix. The important thing to remember is that there’s nothing wrong with the pace you’re going at, and not to get frustrated.

For the longest time I would feel so upset after pole class, because there were always girls who picked up the moves right away, or didn’t seem to have any fear of falling, and I was always months behind everyone else. But as long as you keep plugging along eventually it will come. And believe me, once you get it, it all pays off. So keep you chin up! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

i have had my pole for 11 months & just last month i did my very first invert! & friday i got my first Gemini https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i have never taken a class & i pole alone at home using DVD’s or online lessons & youtube. it’s OK to go at your own pace, i think it’s almost better that way so you don’t do things that are too advanced for you & get hurt…

I am the same way. I used to feel down about it but now I just try to enjoy the journey. My friend owns a pole studio (but unfortunately she is far away) and she said the people who are complain they are "slow learners" tend to have better form overall and advantage is in the end your form will be perfection with those moves! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh everyone goes through "ruts" too. I just got out of mine and am finally learning some new moves.

This site and seeing local polers keep my motivation up!

Never worry about the pace at which you are learning! I was not and am still not a fast learner. There were many basics I was able to do right away but I wan’t doing them properly or safely. I continue to struggle with a lot of moves that I am working on, and it takes me forever to grasp some concepts – my mind and body don’t work at all on the same wavelength.

Pole is more than tricks and I would rather see a good mover than tricks.

I have been pole dancing for 3.5 years and there a loads of people on youtube doing far more advanced tricks than me, but if we all did just tricks it would get kind of boring.

My rule of practice is this I can try a move 10x’s on both sides…If I am just doing the same thing over and over and not getting anywhere – I shelf it and move on to perfecting things I can do.
