Hello, I am brand spankin' new to pole dance/fitness! I bought a pole as a sexy surprise for my fiance, then realized there was much more to it than just dancing around it. I realized how great of a workout it is. After watching USPDF videos, I was hooked and determined. I have finally found something healthy and fun that I can do as a hobby, and I'm in love!  I know it may take years to get where I want to be on the pole, but I'm excited about the journey ahead of me!  I just started 2 weeks ago, and I can already do a few cool tricks properly.  However, it looks like I am letting the pole beat me up…I have soo many bruises!  Is this normal for beginners?  Will my skin (especially between my thighs) toughen up?  I'm finding the pole sit very difficult and painful.  I also really need to work on my strength and flexibility.  i can't even do a split (never really could, even though I do have a small background in gymnastics and such).  I really want to really train my body.  I  haven't worked out in over 5 years.  I do want to lose 20lbs, and I have already lost 6.  My goal with the pole is to become optimally fit, and who knows where else my skills will take me..  This is what will fuel my motivation.  I just wanted to introduce myself, as I am hoping this site will be a good resource for me.  I can't wait to begin doing the online lessons and learn everything there is to know about the world of pole!

Welcome!!!  This is a great positive place to meet other polers, ask questions, and learn.  I'm sure you'll meet your goal of weight loss, and also tone up and gain strength, all while doing something fun!!!

Yes, you will have bruises.  Some people also bruise easier than others.  Your skin might or might not toughen up, or get used to a move, depending on how often you do the move, and if you do it correctly.   So, the more you practice, your body will get accustomed to getting "beat up by the pole", and you will eventually notice less bruising.  Just don't push it and hurt yourself though!!!  As far as your pole sit hurting between your thighs…..it will get less painful once you get used to it.

Good luck with the lessons, and congratulations on getting a pole!!!!

Welcome!Yes normal for bruising. You may even get one with every new trick, the first time you do it. Pole sit takes a while to feel comfy. Just take your time and listen to your body. Don't worry about your weight but just have fun. You'll get super toned in no time. The lessons are great. Veena has stretching for splits too. She has it allhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Anyway, ENJOY!

Welcome!  I suggest investing in Arnica gel for the bruising.  For the sore muscles I take baths.  Your skin will toughen up over time and don't push yourself too hard because you don't want to injure yourself.  If I have bruises in a certain area, then I will take a break from doing anything on those areas so it can heal a bit before I get back at it again LOL.  Happy poling!

thanks for the tips guys!  I'll keep working on that pole sit, and I do feel like the bruises will decrease with time.  I'll give that arnica gel a try..  I hope to be able to start Veena's lessons this weekend!

They are called pole kisses and tehre is a facebook site dedicated to them!

Welcome to pole.  The pole sit is typically the first "ouch" move that I teach and I forewarn that it will hurt.  But that does go away.  After close to 4 years on the pole I really do not bruise much any more even when I am working on new stuff.  It is not only your skin toughening but also learning control over all parts of your body to get a grip on the pole.  Check out Swanson Vitamins for arnica gel…they have the best price around that I ahve found (plus they always run coupons).

Hello everyone I about around for about two weeks now. Just found this post and thought I would come in and say hi!

I have been pole dancing for 2 years (but still to afraid to advance). Still working on my basic and some a little harder. But I am getting back into it am coming back from a knee injury (that I made worse cause I was still rocking the pole and floor moves).

I love this site and can't wait to do my first challenge.
