Does anyone know of any type of hard material I can put over my carpet to practice dancing in my heels? I live in a tiny apartment where the only tile
Is in the kitchen and bathroom and I want to be able to practice at home

Chair mat or a [iece on panelling from Home Depot or Lowes or the like.  I had something like this in my garage:

So if you do put a piece of tiling or plastic matting down, like a chair mat – do you put the base of the pole on TOP of it before you tighten it up, or do you cut a hole for the pole?

I've been thinking of doing the same for my apartment (been looking at those hard foam "safety" mats that fit together like puzzle pieces – my concern isn't heels, I just don't like the texture of our cheapo apartment carpet) but wasn't sure what the best, and safest, setup is.

the problem with the foam interlocking pieces is that your stilettos will sink in and create dents. I had them for my daughter and they're now covered in millions of tiny holes from my dogs' toenails.

I am also interested in how you set up the plastic mat to keep it secure. It's hard doing spins and turns on carpet! I read once about a girl putting duct tape on the soles of her heels to create more slip

Also you can look at LymeLytes photos.  She did her basement.

I never practice in heels so I'm not worried about that. I'm much more comfortable, and graceful, in my bare feet. 🙂

And as I don't have a permanent pole space anymore I need a solution that can be stored and installed only when I need it to practice.

And should mention too that I'm in a rental space so redoing the floor is not a possibility. 🙁

I read the other thread and it seems the puzzle-piece mats might work for what I need. I was looking at some at Walmart a little while ago but there was no price anywhere on them or the shelf, and the box was really heavy so I wasn't going to carry it all the way to checkout just to find it was more than I wanted to pay.

Search for them on Craigslist.  I got a garage full for pretty cheap.  I will warn that when you get warm it is really easy to jam your toes on the mats.  I speak from experience!!

I put down laminate wood flooring over the carpet in my rental. I didn't use any edging except a bit of rope around the edge to accent the nautical theme in our home. It has worked very well thus far. To laminate a 9' X 18' area, it cost me a little over 100 dollars because I used the cheapest laminate wood at Lowe's!

I don't yet have a video up in the forum of my new place, so here is a link to a youtube video where you can see the laminate:

The only problem I've had is that the laminate is squishy and spongy over the laminate, but the pole is stable and safe, and I'm REALLY glad I put down the laminate.
