I searched and read topics on the spinner pole here, I understand a general idea: push off lightly, extend away from the pole to slow down, curl closer to speed up. But what do you do when you are already stopping, but you are on top of the pole and have no plans to come down?

For example, a combo I am trying to do: climb a couple times while creating a good spin, invert, outside leg hook, inverted ball, inside leg hook, ball(or kinda ball… basically I bring my legs in and either go into a ball or just keep them straight along the pole), Allegra, ball, outside leg hook, pull up to an upright position, pole stand, lean in the direction of the spin (I spin clockwise, so I will have a pole under my right arm pit and my torso will be curling around the pole clockwise), back to pole stand, climb one or 2 times, invert into outside leg hook, ball, pike, superman, dove.
Even though I try to normalize the spin by alternating extended and tight positions, I still slow down significantly by the time I am doing a pole stand (that’s when I tried leaning towards the spin), when I switch sides to invert the second time I slow it down even more, and by the time I am in a superman I am stopped. What am I doing wrong and how to speed up if I am in the middle of this combo?
    Sorry, no video(

Unfortunately it sounds to me like you may have to reevaluate the combo. I think it’s probably a bit too long. I can see the spin working through just past the Allegra, but especially to invert again and keep a spin you would need another push off the floor. It also depends on how long you hold the extended positions. It’s a tricky thing because you have to hold the position long enough to show it off, but not so long that it slows you down too much. My only other suggestion is to get used to pushing off for your initial spin more vigorously. Spinning faster at the beginning will keep it going. Spin mode combos are a lot of trial and error. What you think is going to work might not in practice.

I don’t have to make it THAT long, I need to have an allegra (3 seconds) and the dove (3 seconds), that’s it. The rest of it was to keep it spinning. I tried pushing of harder, too, but that trows me off the pole since I have no experience. Do you see any other way to do both moves in one combo?

As a matter of fact you can transition straight into Superman from the Allegra, just via a pike. I do it here at 1:58

Thank you, Lina! I will try this today! I hope I won’t stop this time:))

Good luck with it, I think that this one shouldn’t be a stopper.

In the series that you described there seemed to be a lot of leg switching, which can definitely destroy momentum.

You have to really think about the direction you’re spinning when it comes to doing extended moves like leg switches. For example, if you’re spinning clockwise and do a left leg outside leg hang, in swinging your inside leg around to catch the pole and then swinging your outside leg off the pole and around to go into an inside leg hang, you can help yourself re-generate some spin.

Also, how are you going into your aerial invert? If you go into it as an aerial fan kick you can keep momentum going better than if you simply swing around to the front of the pole and go up.

Little things make a BIG difference on spinny. 🙂

I’d love to see a video of your combination after you’ve got it–sounds lovely!

    Polegirl, you were right!
Turns out when I do an allegra, I do it with the left leg on top, then when I relax my back and grab a bottom foot I twist clockwise. The way I get into an invert (which for now is tuck and go, because it’s so much harder on the spinner) also spins the pole clockwise. When I get into the dove from superman I bend… clockwise! towards the right arm! All this means I had to do moves spinning the right way.
After a 3 hour long practice today I kept stopping no matter what, so I decided to break it up: push off into a sorta-embrace, climb spinning clockwise, invert with left side to the pole, gemini close to the pole, allegra, scorpio, get up and gracefully slide down. Then air walk into chair into backwards knee hook spin, get down to the floor, get up, climb, invert and do dove. I’m learning it for a competition, and deadline is really soon. I decided to go with what I confidently can do and figure out the original combo when I get better at spinning :))
Video should be made soon… whenever I get it all polished and ready:)
    Thanks!
