  • Spinny mode hack?

    Spinny mode has always been very difficult for me since I get easily queasily. But I think I figured out a "hack" that makes spinny mode tolerable for my body. It might not work for everyone, but I think it's worth a try and who knows, it might help someone.

    I realized that the queasiness is a lot more tolerable if I"m inverted. For 1.5yrs, I've been tryin got learn spinny mode with climbs and holds becuase I was too afraid of getting sick while inverted, and failing horribly. But on a whim, I tried I inverting on spinny mode this week and I found out I dont; get nearly as queasy upside down. But if I am upright, the feeling comes back. Maybe someone who knows biology can figure out why.

    Does anyone else have spinny hacks/tricks to share?

    And let me know if beign inverted helps anyone else.

    im just starting on spinny mode!  i wish i could invert on the static let alone the spinny!!!  so im no help to ya there.  but what i do do on spinny is really focus on something.  i cant focus on my hand so i tend to focus on something more distant from me!!!  that has seemed to help.

    i have questions on how to slow down while on spin.  i feel i go way too fast and when i want to dismount its def not smooth.  any pointers?

    when you are upright vs upside down, are you focusing on different things with your eyes?

    I hear different Suggestions…. For some it seems that focusing on the pole or at the top or bottom of the pole works. (not me blahh) I find I feel less dizzy and sick when I don’t focus on anything, just look wherever and let things go blurry! Then once I am off the pole I look right at the pole so my line of sight is split, this stops the room from spinning. I try to do some spin work at the end of every pole session now. So anyway focusing on something while spinning doesnt work for me, but may work for others!

    I wish i had the secret for it… different things work on different people i supose. for me what did the tick was PRACTICE! the first couple of weeks on spinning were not pleasent at all.. to put it mildly.. i would get dizzy, sick, headhaches, almost fainted a couple of times… i have very low blood pressure.. so, for a moment there i thought spinning was not for me.. but i kept practicing, like Veena said, i'd push myself to do some spin work everytime, even if it was just 10 min… and over time, not to long, like it was any other pole trick my body just got used to it, and even a bit addicted lol,  no practice is complete without a little spinning 😀 I still get dizzy and frustrated sometimes, balance issues on some of the more advanced tricks and still havent quite figure out how to slow down or speed up at will…! but at least i no longer feel like i just came out of a rollercoster. Don't give up, dont let it get to you, you'll find out what works when least expected, it will just "click" like what happens with pole tricks 🙂 happy spinning!

    Also, if possible, avoid tilting your head sideways so that your ears are parallel to the ground. If you do, it aligns the posterior semicircular canals with the plane of spin and you''ll feel like you're falling backwards/forwards endlessly (this is a pretty good party trick with a spinny chair btw) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif

    Thank you Amy!

    I don't think I"m focusing on anything when I"m inverted, I do most of my inverted moves by feel anyway since my glasses tend to move to my forhead…maybe that's why I don;t get dizzy.
