Splits
Posted by Brittania Banks on February 19, 2010 at 12:45 amJust yesterday I finally accomplished a long goal to be able to do the splits. I am now VERy eager to try splits on pole, drop into splits, jade split… ect. But I am still a little airy on the idea. How long should you typically wait after accomplishing a split before you utilize it into pole tricks? Also, what would a great started split move be to add to my routine??
Thanks all!!

I would start by incorporating splits into your floor work – this will be much easier on your body because you’ll be able to control getting into them.
The first "trick" could be some thing like from standing on the ground lift your leg up and slowly, press it up against the pole in a split. You could also use a split as a dismount from a handstand too – provided you can do handstands and fee stable enough. Lastly a move that most of my super flexy beginners can do and love it holding onto the pole and slowly sliding down into splits next to it. Be sure you have a good grip though – you don’t want to slide too fast!
Congrats on your new found splits! how long did it take you?

Great job! I’m getting closer to my side split and I was wondering this myself… I can’t wait to be able to do splits in my poling! I’m jealous! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I can’t fully split any way on the floor but still do pole split moves. I can sometimes get down into front splits on the floor, but still getting back to it after I partially tore a hammy a few months ago. I do cartwheel kicks into splits (tore hammy this way dropping too far and too quickly instead of controlled), shoulder splits, oona splits, chopper folded out and lowered into splits, have tried skater splits… I’m starting to lower myself into straddle splits from a pole up (so I can lift back up again… so afraid with straddle splits that my weight is going to push me too far and tear something). Nowhere near flexible enough to get on pole – up and down or straddle splits. Just can’t get myself into position. Would love to be able to do standing split putting my front leg on the pole and a free standing back split (like in yoga and ice skating?).

@ Foxy – Thanks! I will for sure try that! It took me two weeks until I was able to get into them, tonight I practiced climbing to the top of the pole and dropping myself to the floor in the splits.. (felix cayne inspired of coarse)
My ultimate goal is to go from handspring, and tumble down into splits like kelly kane does..

congrats on the splits, I have been taking the advice given here and 3-4 times a week I’ve started stretching after working out and holding each for 2 mins with a timer and Its actually only been regular for the last couple weeks and I may be the most flexable I have ever been! Still no splits and it still is very awkward but still trying to get there.
