Hi guys! Any of you know a reasonable way to become sponsored … even if just at a modest level? I am a finalist in Pole Dance America national championship in March, which takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. With flight & hotel alone it will be several hundred dollars. Thinking about this has made me realize that although i certainly don’t mind putting in the work to do competitions, the money gives me pause. I know generally you win competitions or do performances, become somewhat well known and companies offer to sponsor you. Is there any accepted way of reaching out to them for small sponsorships? I have done a few competitions now – Pole Dance America, Skindustry Queen of the Pole, and Midwest Regional Elite 2013. Thank you!

Not that I am aware. However I do know girls that have done lessons, kickstarter type things and fundraisers to try to get money for trips. To the best of my knowledge no company will sponsor you unless you have a title. And even many of the companies that sponsor the competitions do not give up money but may offer poles or merch to give away. This is true for most sports. I know that when I had done a teen pageant I had gone around to local businesses asking for donations, but that was many moons ago and before most companies tightened their belts on monetary donations.

Thanks for that!… I wonder how ignored I would be if I contacted them directly… 🙂 It’s interesting – being an athlete who is an adult with a (nonpole) career etc rather than a 20-yr old just starting out in life.

You need to think even about “regular” athletes. No company is going to sponsor them until they have a name.

Do you teach? Is it possible to put on some workshops and do some private or semi-private lessons and packages? I know this is what a lot of teachers do in order to pay travel costs. Or if you don’t teach…picking up a short term part-time gig maybe? GL!!
