Standing at the window looking in
Things are hotting up in South Africa. We now have Miss Pole Dance SA, the recently formed Pole Federation Association of South Africa, more international pole dancers visiting, and more showcases and competitions. This past Sunday was the PFASA pole competition. I was mesmerised at the performances. A small part of me was sad that all these girls are so good and I'm not progressing, but that's just the little girl inside of me who needs to pull up her big girl panties and do something about it!
What really moved me was to see the difference in the performers (men and women) who had mastered how to convey emotion in their movements, the way they looked up and at the audience, making eye contact, showing emotion on their faces. I could see it, I knew that this is something that I want to learn!
But in some ways I felt like I was standing at the window looking in. I can see what I want, but I don't yet know how to get it.
Just sharing, but if anyone has suggestions for me on how to learn about body movement, and how to convey emotion through movement, facial expression; how to turn a performance into a impassioned story…
That's my next goal in my pole journey!
