Star foam roller
Posted by Dancing Paws on September 5, 2013 at 12:18 pmI've been looking at those star foam rollers, the ones that are ridges. Is there a benefit to those over traditional foam rollers?

I have heard more people who say they LOVE their nobby roller. It has the ability to get into some crevices (say your back and shoulders) more so than a standard foam roller and due to the smaller footprint of the nobs can exert more psi.
Here is some info from RumbleRoller: http://www.rumbleroller.com/faq.html

I forgot to add that you can get to trigger points easier with the nobby ones too.

I was looking at those too. It was either those or the star ones, which I don't know much about: http://www.optp.com/OPTP-STAR-ROLLER?kw=star%20roller#.UheJTJLVB8E

I have one with the long ridges like the star. I love it! I wouldn't suggest using it too much for the back though, it's a little uncomfortable for that. Feels amazing on the legs!

I have a rumble roller and I have a love hate relationship with it – it hurts like a mother to roll on but it feels so good after – just like getting a sports massage. It really gets the knots in my muscles – this woman's video demonstrates how I feel during and after a rumble roll (especially her face at 23secs lol!)

I'm only used to my extra firm foam roller and a tennis ball, so I don't know if I should get the hard or regular of either. This is so hard! Apparently the rumble is better for the back? It supposedly deflects off the spine?

Google bodybuilding.com rumble roller and read through all of the posts from guys who lift. That may give you some better information (if you can get past the brotelligence).
