  • Starting Pole Dancing after a break…

I was wondering if anyone has or is going through the problem of getting back into poling after a big break! I have not trained properly in months, due to being really sick, work and then taking the big step of opening up my own studio. My closest studio is over an hour away which makes it hard to attend class. I am qualified to teach beginners, working on my intermediate qualification at present but stuck in a BIG rut…

It has taken me months to get the studio ready, and all my time has been spent on getting it ready and teaching. I got on the pole for the first time today, and shock…i can hardly do anything! My skin was bleeding after, covered in bruises and my hands just ache where the good old callus are! It was so heart breaking, i almost cried (ok i did just a bit!)

So can anyone shed some light, if there is light at the end of the tunnel. I almost feel like quitting https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

There is a light for sure and your muscles have memory so it will only take half as long to get them back! Don’t give up it will come again 🙂

Yes, you'll get it back, don't give up now!

I took a big break for pregnancy and recovery…and then I also took up hooping. It's always been hard to either hoop or pole with little ones. But yes, the muscle memory and the fact that you know you CAN do it is already in you.

    GL!!!

There is a great series of videos on youtube just for building back from pregnancy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0Ng0hmR3AM&context=C3d5399cADOEgsToPDskJ0UOfx-vdo80U81i6KOMU0  These are wonderful strength building for getting your abs and back ready to get onto pole.

These would apply for any reason, not just pregnancy. I'm getting back after a long break as well.  Working on building strength too 🙂  Have found them to be helpful.

You will get it back.  You've got a studio so you have the space, just don't push yourself too hard.  You would probably give your students a ton of credit…give yourself some too.  Have a good cry and take it a little slower, it will come in time.  Sorry my other posts were a bit off the mark. Reading too many threads at once.

After having my last baby was when I decided to change how I taught pole! I designed the lessons here to build strength while learning. I know your already an instructor, but I thought I would just let you know. There is also a Pole Strength Routine, in the lessons and its a great workout. Everyone is right about muscle memory, it will come back. So for now just work on building strength.

    Here's the 20 min routine https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4db64418-c354-4da5-aa23-464c0ac37250

I took a year long break, lost basically ALL my moves, and it has taken me this whole year just to get SOME of it back (although I have been on and off the pole during the year due to life, sickness, etc.) Veena's strength routine helps a lot. Don't fret, your body will remember the moves, the calouses will rebuild themselves, and your skin will become familiar with the burn again.
