  • Static or Spinning at first?

Posted by soclse2hvn5122 on April 11, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Okay, so this is my second week on the pole and this whole time I’ve been wondering whether I should learn on Static or Spin mode first, or do a mixture of both? Is it based off preference? Or is one better to learn on first? The pole I have has both modes so any opinions are welcome! 🙂

    Thanks 🙂

I think most people prefer to start with static, and then move into spinning once the have a few aerial moves under their belt. I poled on a static-only pole for a long time, and not that I have one that can spin, I find I don’t use it as much as I’d like, and the dynamics for it are very different for me… so personally, I’d say start off with static while you’re getting your strength and everything up, and then get into spinning slowly, but do it early-ish? Maybe in a month or two?
I’m sure Veena would have some clearer advice though! I know that she has a discussion on spin mode in her lessons.

I’ve been poling nine months and I’ve worked on static and spin right from the start. To me it just makes sense to do both just as I always practice all tricks on my strong side and my weak side.

Work on both if you can, however I will say I suggest learning new inverts and even spins on static first. Inverts for safety reasons and spins on static because learning to get the timing and technique down for static can be really tough if you learn ONLY spins on spinning pole. 🙂 I show you both static and spin in the lessons here.
