I can't believe that my other post was posted FOUR times! I just sent it form my iPhone…that has happened before but not FOUR times.
Anyway… I dont have much exoerience with giving photos to anyone else for editing since i have only ever given my photos up to my graphic designer friend to use in her portfolio. I edited my work, period. This grimey louse actually stole my photo–there was no question about it. There is no other way to describe my sitauation other than what it is. It is me in the picture, not her, and she stole it from me to pass as her. If that isn't stealing, then maybe I have been away too long and I don't know the proper term for it.
I contacted the user. I reported the user to facebook AND I reported that they posted the photo without my permission.
Making excuses for this really makes me angry since I know what I did on my part… having the sleaze bag on my facebook to begin with–which really isn't something i usually do. That was a mistake that obiously came to bite me.
As far as SV goes…I have been thinging about it now, and about my videos… and I just haven't decided how I want to handle it. I don't feel like I need to wear a mask or hide under my couch to shun myself from the world. I love what I do and I feel it is important that we share our journey with others. But I feel like deserve the credit for what I put my blood sweat and tears in, that's all.
How hard is it to thank the model for your work, link the info for which you got the inspiration…give credit to the people who worked for something. Stealing is just what it is– dirty, thievin', stealing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

The safest way, watermark and if you edit others pictures or have others edit yours (like I do for a living) always work under a contact to protect your rights. But stealing someones pictures is just uuggh! I really feel your pain Jelli. I hope FB takes it down soon! You can acutally also watermark your videos. Distribution of your videos/pictures is hard to stop, but atleast, you will be credited and that is the important part. Dont let some creep get you down, you are a good poledancer and you should never stop showing that, because of fear.

Thanks Steffie https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif I will start thinking of a way to watermark my videos…maybe I would have to take them all down and reoad them..? Ugh. I kinda have a lot. I know there is an option on SV that we can only have our "friends" see our photos, but what about our videos? Does anyone know anything about the privacy settings on SV? I just suddenly imagined a freeloader getting a membership just to check out all of our stuff (shudder…dirty perves…shudder) or even someone just to steal videos or photos. After this little experience, I think it's best to go ahead and put the question out there–what are our privacy rights on SV. Maybe I should just email Veena or Webmaster..? Or is this common knowledge that I missed…or is this something others would like to know about, as well???

It sounds like a lot of work, but if it gives you peace in mind, I say do it! 🙂 I actually dont know what the rights are here on sv. I do know that they can be different from site to site, so theres no common knowlegde, since its changeable. I guess there could be a few things every site needs in order to be legal, but I know they can ad their own rules aswell. I know facebook gets the rights to all image uploaded, and they even have the right to edit them. I doubt they would stumble upon mine, but I dont upload anything to facebook because of that. I only share, if I see a photographer uploading a picture Im in, witch is his/hers right and then the damaged is already done 🙂 Its a really good question.

I think anyone can become a memeber without paying. Doing so, allows them to see all the videos I believe. I often wonder who the members without pictures really are, or maybe they just didn't put one up. Whatever the case, the net is a very public place and what we put on it is open for all to see. Yes, I am sure there are a lot of pervs cruising our videos, but hey, what do we expect? We are all hot, sexy, fit, and dancing around in our undies on a pole. Most guys fantasies. If a few want to get their rocks off watching mine, so be it. I would just be glad I can can still have that effect at my age.
As for my pictures being stolen, I am sure I never have to worry about that since I don't have any fancy poses or a rocking young body. BUT if I ever saw any of my pictures floating around on the net I would have to smile. I would find it flattering that someone wishes they looked like me.
I know I will probably get a lot of backlash to this post and the way I think about things. But hey that is just the way that I personally feel. 🙂

Problem is some people have no respect and think they can use a pic or video just because they got it from internet. I have a friend who found a pic of her own studio (with her and student) on the page of someone who was using it to sell pole lessons. And i don't care if people got the permission first or not but if you ask them to stop using it they should, because it show how little respect they have for others and themrself. Just look at Veena who had to fight many time for her videos even after many of us complain about it to the person who use it.
SV is not perfect but i did notice that it's harder to ''steal'' that don't mean it can't happen or that we don't have some creeper around. We just need to be careful of what we post on internet and stand for each other when we found out that someone is doing a bad use of a pic. Personnally i have pics of some of the girls that wear my clothes but they gave me permission and they can ask at any time that it be taken down. I rather have less pic on my page to show my stuff than getting a bad reputation for me and my business.

I think thats a very healthy way of looking at it Lyme. I wish I could do that, unfortunatly when my photos have been stolen it is a problem, since its my job, and could in worst case, cost me money. I still think you should protect yourself the best way you can, if you are uncomfortable with it, witch is understandable. So no backlash from me, just a little envy maybe 😀

I remember someone using pics to promote their own studio. And doing that or something that can cost people thier jobs is wrong. But i like to entertain and perform and if someone “enjoys” watching, that my hope! 🙂

I would have thought it would be more of a flattery feeling, but at first it was a violating feeling. I’m sorry… I guess I don’t view my self as a buffet for anyone to just take a piece as they wish. If someone is getting their rocks off on my video, then I don’t want to know about it. The purpose for what is do is more than public enjoyment. I’d like to think am able to show creativity, expression, and power in my dancing. So I politely disagree that my feelings on this subject are very different Lyme but to each his own. No ridicule, it is just where I stand on this.

And I don’t know what the deal with veenas videos were… Could someone elaborate?

Well she and other veener had their video stolen on YT. I found one that the music had been change and had some edting done (Birds of Prey) and the other one from Adele song, that was someone who was using it to get people on his webpage to sell pole related stuff. Everything was there, from SV tagging to the message that Veena had post, It was for webbie. Many of us had left messages there and try to have them remove but after months they were still up. But the good thing is i heard they finally have been taking down, not sure if it's by YT.
I think that once it happen to you or a close friend you realise that using a pic/video without permission or credit is not a small thing. Keep in mind that it's someone else work and sweat behind it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Yes this is my big thing, not to mention that inner gut wrentching anger that made me want to jump through the computer and strangle someone. I do not put anything on YT though for many reasons, but mostly because of the quality of people who patron YT. I look up stuff on YT daily but there are some of the nastiest people on YT who write some of the most mindless thing–it infuriates me. So, I imagine studioveena as a pole community. My husband did NOT like the idea of me posting videos online but I explained to him that this was a pole community and that one needed to be a member to see my videos. But, memberships are free…that means anyone could have access to my things on SV, should they want them, right…? I am not sure how that makes me feel. Maybe I am being over sensitive about this but I did not sleep very well that night. It wasn't just a ho hum kinda thing for me. My best friend was actually skyping with me when I found out about it and she was surprised how calm I was. She said she would have been very upset, so I know I am not just making this feeling up in my head. Thank you Tiggertail for reminding me that I am not just nuts for feeling that way.

I haven't had time to read every post in this thread, but I did see a few misconceptions that concern me.
I am a photographer, so I have spent time researching rights. The person who takes a photo retains the copyright unless they expressly sign it over. Most photographers would not sell the actual copyright, but a usage license to a client. Asking someone to edit a photo does not necessarily make it theirs. It depends on the agreement, which is hard to prove without a written record or contract. Sometimes photographers hire a person to help with editing, and the editor is given permission to use the photo in a portfolio to represent their editing work but not to resell it to someone else or to represent their phtography skills.
While it is true that anything on the internet CAN be stolen, let's be clear that it is still stealing of intellectual property. Protect yourself as much as you can because litigration is not cheap or easy. I think it is actually even a little more difficult to protect a picture OF yourself than a picture you took.
Anyway, you are not crazy to be upset about a photo turning up somewhere unexpected. There is not much you can do about it besides asking for it to be removed. If you don't get the response you want, you can let the offeder know that you are consulting an attorney.

Yeah, when my hubby were staying at the Rizt Carlton in Sarasota, there was this creepy old man taking pictures of me when I walked into the pool. Hubby was ready to smash the camera, I told him no big deal. If he was taking pictures of me, he was probably taking them of hundreds of other women as well. Yes, I thought it was rather flattering and I am not saying everyone will feel this way, but I do/did. And let me remind you this was PRIOR to me being diagnoses and layed up with Lyme disease, back in the day when I had a rocking hot body like many of you here! Don't think I would get any picture taking now a days…..just saying.
