I notice when I try to do moves where the legs are supposed to be straight I can’t get them straight then bend at the knee a little. Are there exercises or something I can do to work on really straight lags?

It’s a super common problem. What is “straight legs” in any “normal” situation does suddenly not look straight anymore on the pole/aerially etc.

A suggestion: Stand in front of a mirror, facing it, and bring one leg out to the side, turned out from the hip (knee not facing the mirror) and kept straight. You are probably engaging the quad a bit. Now engage it even more, as much as you can. Did your leg straighten out yet a bit and the knee become less prominent when you look at the line? If so, this is the “feeling” that you need to strive for also on the pole. I know how it feels when my legs are as straight as they can get, so when I reach that same feeling also up on the pole I can trust that they are straight.

At least this is the trick I use personally. Then it takes repetition to be able to do it in coordination with all the other troubles on the pole. But I think anyone can accomplish it!

Another similar tactic is to sit on the floor legs straight in front of you (like a pike, but sitting up straight) Then, contract your quads, trying to lifts your heel off the floor (NOT your entire leg, just your heels). Your knees should stay on the floor.

If you’re taking the lessons here, the lower body routine will help you with this issue. It takes time to train the legs, but if you keep practicing it will get better! This routine has exercises and stretches that will help….https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/52e9d171-5724-43b2-8784-47960a9aa0eb

I am dealing with this issue too. I started doing Veena’s lower body routine and continuing my flexibility training.
