Hey guys. Just a quick question.

I know it's easy to strain your muscles with pole, but the most common ones seem to be centred around arms and shoulders.

Have any of you ever strained your abdominal muscles? If so, where was the pain located? I can't tell if that's what I did or if I have a hernia. I have been practicing a lot of flags and shoulder planks so I may have overdid it. Basically I feel a painful lump above my bellybutton.

Anyone been there? If so, how long was your recovery? Did you have to stop poling completely?

I wouldn't say I've necessarily strained my abs but I have felt very sore around my mediastinum (breastbone), especially underneath it with a super hard workout. If you are feeling a lump near your bellybutton, I'd be suspicious for an umbilical hernia. It's usually not a big deal unless you start to have intense pain. Muscle strains usually don't cause lumps. You may feel spasms or see spasms of your muscle, but I've never seen a strain cause a physical lump.

I would go to the dr. Find out for sure and take the proper steps to heal up. We polers are notorious for making things worse!

Thanks guys!! I have a doctor’s appointment next week. I’m pretty sure it’s a hernia. It only hurts if I touch it or lift anything.
Unfortunately I’m supposed to be entering my first competition in six weeks so….poop.
And yeah, we polers are a dramatic bunch!! Haha
