Just felt the need to whine really quickly. I found a nice pair of full finger leather gloves that I thought would help me grip better (I’ve been through numerous grip aids, plus the Mighty Grip gloves, which grip really well, but they are only half finger and the tips of my fingers still get so sweaty that I can’t climb the pole after a few minutes, so even though I kind of feel like it’s cheating, I broke down and bought some full finger gloves–I’d rather feel like a cheater than continue with all this sweaty hand frustration and not have my poling progress at all) and about two weeks after I started using the gloves, we were plunged into super low temperatures. Winter struck with a vengeance this year; I was so pissed, because I was finally starting to feel like I’d found a solution, and now it’s too damn cold to pole!! I only have a small space heater that I keep in my room because it takes pretty much all day to heat up my living room to an optimal poling temp, and I refuse to use my baseboard heaters because I’m paranoid about them being a fire hazard and they’re really expensive to run. It’s finally warmed up a bit to above freezing, but for a while we were seeing negative temps, so the last thing I wanted to do was put on a skimpy enough outfit to be able to grip the pole. Not to mention, my Lil Mynx has been so friggin’ cold that I can feel the afterburn long after I’m off it.

Here’s proof of the hold pole dancing can have on you, though: one morning I was in the mood to do a caterpillar climb for some reason, and to try and appease my pole need I was just doing some spins around it–in sweatpants and a really heavy Carhartt sweatshirt because it was so cold. This, unfortunately, did not work. The caterpillar’s call was just too tempting to ignore, so here I am, standing in my living room that is probably just barely into the double digits temp wise, stripping off my sweatshirt and then my pants so that I can caterpillar climb in just my underwear and a thin t-shirt. The really bad thing is that instead of doing once climb and promptly sprinting back to my warm room, I spent several minutes messing around with no pants on. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

In conclusion: I can’t wait for spring.

i feel your pain. Its cold here too. Pretty much has been an ice and snow wonderland since Dec 1st. And this is not normal here!!!!! it is so cold in my house (darn defunct heating system) I’m in long johns fleece pj pants, turleneck and polar fleece top and two pairs of boot socks. Not pole friendly.

top it off with working retail and taking care of 20 horses I’m not feeling it. Taking my pole to NC with me next week though so hope to get some training time in.

We get fairly cold winters here, but usually below zero temps are pretty rare–however, this year we had a whole week where that’s pretty much all we were getting. It sucks–I hate the cold anyway, but the fact that it’s interfering with my poling is really pissing me off. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif I did actually get some practice in today, though, so that was nice. Had to run my heater for about three or four hours just to get my living room up to 60, though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

its been pretty much below freezing here all month, very odd.

My main heater has been running 24/7 for at least 4 weeks. Pretty much since I got back from Jamaica. I have TWO space heaters in the masterbed/bath and a heated mattress pad on the bed and its still cold. my electric bill will be about 600 this month and I’m still freezing. If I would have been smart I would have done a new heater/ac duct work instead of Disney and Jamaica. but the other two were too much fun lol.

$600?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif Holy crap. I would not be eating all month if my electricity bill were that high, that’s for sure. I can’t really fault you for taking the trips instead of getting duct work done–that’s what they make winter clothing for anyway. Why pass up Disney for fixing your heating system when you can pile on 50 layers of Arctic rated gear? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

My electric bills are never lower then about 150 and that is just for the house not for the barn too. Highest wil be close to 700 for the year. hate it but it is the way it is. Wouldn’t mind so much if it was warm in my house. I hate paying that much and being cold!

We had really never taken the girls on a trip so we took them to disney for their 6th and 8th b’days. jamaica was for pole dancing for me lol.

Yeah, it would suck to pay that much and still be freezing your butt off. I would not be pleased. I average about $40-$50 in the winter, but I have a small one bedroom apartment and just the one space heater that I only run until the room is warm enough for me to stand it and then I shut it off again. Often I’ll just wear heavy clothes and not run it at all, mostly because A. I am cheap, and B. I make $11 an hour and have no second income.

I was 8 on my second trip to Disney, actually. I’ve been there three times; love it. (Well, Disneyland anyway–never been to Disney World before, though I would like to go someday.)

I feel you, Horsecrazy! I can’t even work on my caterpillar right now, my legs are so slippery! Even on brass, holds are tenuous at best. I usually wait until my husband’s doing the laundry (our dryer vents indoors and provides nice, warm, humid air), but there’s only a window of an hour or so, so I have to get right on it! I’m going to try putting on the clothes steamer for a few minutes and see if that helps, but yeah, these temps SUCK!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Nymphie, I don’t know how you do it, girl, I really don’t! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

Yeah it takes me ages to heat up my pole, even with the central heating and electric heater on, and if I leave my pole to watch a lesson or look at my last move it goes cold again!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I’m glad it’s not just me–I always feel sooo frustrated in the winter because I usually end up only poling a few times throughout the whole season aside from a random spin or invert here and there. I hate the way the metal seems to sweat because of the difference in body temp and pole temp–it’s awful. My sweaty, nasty hands don’t need any help with being slippery, thank you very much!!

    nope not just you.

I have the problem of never being warm to begin with. That coupled with the driest skin on earth makes poling hard.

Omg pole sweat, is that what it is?? Lately ive been feeling a slick on my pole thats like condensation or something, that must be it! Soo annoying, can’t get any moves, and grip aid doesn’t seem to help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

That’s the best word I can think to describe it. Mine gets this slimy coating on it when it’s cold and I’ve been hanging onto it for a bit. From what I remember reading, this is because your hand (and the rest of your body) is warmer than the pole, so when you are gripping it your body temp quickly heats up the outside of the pole but not the inside, and this forms condensation. I always have this problem when the temp start to drop, although it’s not nearly as bad since I sanded my pole. Prior to that, dancing in the winter was kind of like pouring grease all over a hardwood floor and trying to do flips on it without killing yourself.

No that makes loads of sense. Is there any way to stop it??
