The trick with lighting is to ensure there’s enough lighting from the front and the back.
    This ensures definition.
This article here has info on Film Noir lighting, http://www.videomaker.com/article/13548/ however for dancing you need something to show what is going on.
My advice is to put a bright light facing upwards – a study lamp with a high watt bulb is fine. Place is highish so it bounces off the ceiling – esp if the ceiling is white or a pale colour. Use mirrors (behind the camera) and other shiny surfaces to bounce light onto you.

Always test the lighting prior to shooting your routine. this will tell you immediately what changes you need.

When we shot at the studio, I used a double headed halogen I got from Mitre10 (Hardware shop) and bounce one lamp onto the ceiling (for brightness) and the other onto the wall for warmth. I also bounced light onto the subject by using flecky boards. These are big sheets of white polystyrene that reflect a softer light onto the subject. White sheets over something pale will work just as well.
I’ve not done formal study, however, this is what I’ve tried that works.
A couple of angle poise lamps can get great lighting if positioned well. get this sorted before you shoot your routine and you’ll notice a big difference.
gels are expensive and scarves can be a fire hazard so be careful with what you put over the lamp.
Also remember that flouro lighting gives a blue light, whereas incandescent has a softer glow.

Wow, thanks for all the info! Maybe I can get a semi-professional looking vid out there with these tips and tricks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Or at least one where I don’t look like a pasty-white ghost floating around the pole.

Try using a peach toned bulb for warmth, high wattage so it shows up or bounce it onto a mirror or other shiny surface. That should get some warmth.
Also try a warm filter in your editing programme, this will help.

i just started here, but i think it would be nice (but probably hard to do) to have your lesson videos auto play one after another. its kind of awkward to have it end and have to go back after a minute or 3 to pick another lesson. maybe its just that i’m new. or maybe have a repeat option?

youtube has a new feature that lets you link vids in a series so they all autoplay…but this site video looks totally different from youtube format…?

    thx again

If you want to see the same lesson again you can just click the play button again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Thanks for the suggestions.

I was wondering if a "tech head" thread is in order, perhaps a subbie under not pole related.

Purely for those who need the advice of a boffin, be it on computers, editing, "art direction", lighting, editing programmes or other non-pole related stuff. Mr Rouge (Dave) has been helpful so far and I’m sure I can ask him lots more.

I’m happy to advise on technical issues surrounding lighting of vids etc, how to dress rooms and advice on costumes, having a bit of a film background. Dave has a technical editing skills, mainly Final Cut editing on a Mac but a little on Sony Vegas, and I can ask him questions.

    Thoughts? Feedback??
Hi, good suggestion I created a forum for that! TECH RELATED and its under EVERYTHING ELSE

I dunno if I’ve missed this option somewhere, but is there a way to unsubscribe to all new forum posts somewhere??? I’ve been trying to make sure I’m unsubscribed to all the forums, but I’m still getting a million emails every day leaking through… is there a master turn-off somewhere, and if there isn’t, can there be???

I don’t mind the emails letting me know I have a new message in my inbox, etc. but the ones about every thread I’ve posted to are the annoying ones…

Oh and is there a way to be notified of new comments to videos that you’ve posted or if someone replies to a comment that you left on a video??? I’m always getting comments on my videos, or commented on someone else’s and they replied, but have no way of knowing without going back to the video itself and looking…

Like I said, this may be an option somewhere already that I’ve missed. Thanks!

There is a unsubscribe or stop watching, this topic, portion on any email you get. Just click on that. So if you read your whole email you should see this on the bottom……

If you no longer wish to watch this topic you can either click the
"Unsubscribe topic" link found at the bottom of the topic above, or by
    clicking the following link:

Yes emails, when people comment on a vid would be nice….it is a BIG process so please be patient. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif One more thing, if you don’t want all your SV emails going into your inbox, but you don’t want to miss new posts… you can create a filter on your inbox, so just SV emails are in there. This is what I have to do to keep track of everything.

Yeah I saw that, but I was just kinda hoping that there was one place to just unsubscribe to all of them; however the email filter thing is a good idea, I didn’t think of that. So I may just do that and that will suffice. Thanks!

And thanks about the video comment thing, I’ll be patient and I’m sure everyone else will, too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Thank you!!!

i have a suggestion..it’s a very small thing that probably doesn’t matter BUT…whatever. when you look at someone’s profile (and when you set up your own) there is a space for what country you are from and what city…however, if you live in the US then i wish there was a spot for what state you live. i only say this because one of the girls i met through the site was from Arlington, and there is an Arlington Mass which is close to my location in NH. However, she was from Texas lol…anyway just a thought.

I think it’d be nice to have a section where we can kind of keep a running blog as we all go on through our pole (and life) journeys or maybe just a section in a forum where we can update our own thread daily and people can comment and converse and follow one another while getting to know eachother better too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Basically I just want a place where I can ramble on excessively about myself… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

I would like a ‘View First Unread’ button in every thread so it automatically takes me to my first unread post rather than having to scroll down and possibly clicking through every page looking for a little itty bitty red page unread sign rather than the white page read sign
