Superman issues
Posted by almostsinglemom on July 16, 2011 at 12:11 pmThis seems to be a tricky one.
I just can't get it! I have tried and tried and tried. My inner thighs hate me!
When I get over into the superman I have to 'unwind' and spin a little and it freaking hurts! Is this okay? Not okay? What can I do?

Post a video and we can try to take a look at it for you? It's a tricky one it took me a while to figure it out!

Yes, it freakin' hurts. I remember hopping off the pole grabbing my thighs in sheer pain, they used to get beat red from the friction. It also took me a while to learn how to make the turn over especially when it hurt so bad. Now when I do it (all-be-it still can smooth it out to look nicer) my husband laughs because he remembers when I was learning it. I even had to leave it for a while and come back to it. I also still spin a little when getting into it. I have to invert on a side opposite of where I want to end Superman 🙂
Like glitter said, if you can post a video, you will get great help and tips from veneers here.

That small amount of rotating that happens after you get into the trick happens to me every time. I think it's sort of natural for the body to rotate when it's not even (i.e. one arm behind you, not both, therefore not even). My plank rotates too. As for getting into it… lemme see if I can explain this without demo… when you're ready to turn the body over, you have one leg that is holding on by the knee pit and the other leg straight with the inner thigh against the pole. That straight leg is like the anchor leg. It is essentially already in position so when you do flip over, you are simply bringing the other leg down to meet the straight one as you turn over. The biggest issue I had was that my inner thigh skin was being twisted as I turned over. I alleviated that pain by focusing on the placement of my anchor leg. Before flipping yourself, make sure that the straight anchor leg's knee is already aimed towards the floor, so you are not twisting the skin of that inner thigh because the leg is already in the correct position and does not need to turn and twist. Remember that the pain will eventually subside with all of our tricks, this one included. It just takes a little longer for some tricks and Superman is one of them for sure. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Are you on a static pole? I've found that a lot of moves hurt more when I first learn them compared to on spinny due to concentrating too hard on getting into the move by any means necessary and forgetting to control the rotation, whereas spin is a lot more forgiving on the skin. Maybe you could try learning the superman on spin mode, then when you're more used to it and you've built up some thicker skin on your thighs you could try it on static?

I kind of got it. I have to keep working at it- but I learned 2 things.
– I have very small hands which makes getting my grip on the pole hard.
– My wrist issues make it worse I am having sugery in 2 weeks to fix an injured wrist (from last year) that did not heal right.

I haven't forgotten about you lady! I am super busy now with training for this competition but if you can wait until after the 27th of this month we for sure have a date 🙂

I am having wrist surger the 23rd and will be in a cast for 12 weeks after that, so I'll have to wait until later. Stupid wrist
