Really feel like it’s my lack of flexibility holding me back… I feel like my hips just wont rotate into it like I want them to… Advice?? I’ll practice again later and hopefully post so y’all can help After seeing

I've been trying it from a shooting star.

I started out just getting used to it from a reverse handstand, then slid my legs back so the pole was up my butt https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif with my ankles crossed. Reach back, grab the pole and your in it. Just feel the pose, then try it from a shooting star.

I also recommend getting into it from a reverse handstand so you can experience the trick before trying it from anything else. From shooting star is a good one to start with, as well as from pike hip hold and flatline Scorpio. Doing it from a cradle is a bit more difficult. You should post the attempts! We will not make fun of you, of course, we would help you! It’s easier to provide advice with a visual at hand. 🙂

I have major issues with superman, despite the best efforts of some world-class instruction. Part of my problem is that I hold to the pole too quickly, which makes it very difficult for my hips to turn completely. The times I get superman (it's still inconsistent which drives me NUTS), it's because I remember not to latch on, to leave myself room for my hips to go below my shoulders so I can get a good lock with the top hand.

Some of my attempts have been pitiful indeed. I've tried it from outside leg hang, hip hold, flatline inside leg hang, shoulder mount (my most successful, most often because it doesn't require turning of the hips), inverted thigh hold…. you name it, I feel like I've tried it.

I too suggest shooting star. I actually learnt it from a side V but I think shooting star would have been easier because the pole is already pretty close to where you want it to be against your inner leg. For either one, it's really about trusting yourself to flip over, push your hips forward and snapping your legs shut (very painful at first).

I've been struggling with Superman for YEARS!  i finally got it the other day after a class with my favourite teacher at the studio.  I was going from cradle and kept getting stuck trying desperately to rotate my hips into superman, I was seriously starting to think i just didn't have the right kind of body for it but she gave me something to try which worked first time (and every time since for me!  Woop!).  Her advice was to "bring your top leg towards you before you try to flip your hoips over into superman,  Do it like you are trying to kiss your own knee"  It's messy at the moment but it gets me there… and i can make it look pretty later 🙂

Hopefully this will make sense…one of the things that helps get enough room for the hips to flip over is to practice it low to the floor then brace your forward hand on the floor out in front of you so that you can balance and push yourself up to turn over.
