Sweat and Pole Sits
Hello, my name is Dori and I’m a beginner. I have been taking weekly lessons at a studio for 6 months and just recently got an Xsport Pole (Chrome, 45mm). I’m really enjoying practicing at home and working on conditioning with Veena’s routines. However, even after 6 months, I’m having major problems executing my pole sits.
I believe that I understand the technique well and have practiced the sit countless times at this point, but I can’t maintain my grip with my upper inner thighs, which makes attempting wrist seats, planks, etc. nearly impossible. It seems that I just sweat too much. As soon as I pull up into my sit, I slide down almost immediately, despite having (I believe) proper positioning with legs crossed and hips tilted toward one side/down to lock in. I thought it was because I sweat a good deal, but even after rubbing a bit of alcohol solution on my legs, I still slide down as soon as I’m up.
For some context, I do have a larger frame, at 5’7″, 224lbs with a very large chest (working on losing weight and a breast reduction) I’m not sure if those things may be contributing to my difficulty as well.
Do you have a suggestion on how I might maintain my POCs in the pole sit?? Any strengthening or conditioning exercises I can do to improve my grip?
I appreciate your time! Thank you!
