The official splits progress thread
Posted by chemgoddess1 on November 29, 2009 at 1:19 amSo in discussing the Genius of Flexibility book someone suggested starting a splits progress thread. Seeing as that has not happened yet I thought I would start it. I have had getting into the splits as a new years resolution for the last two years but have not really done a whole lot of working on it. Lets see if keeping a log of it helps give me the push that I need. Just as background, I am almost 41 and have never in my life been able to do them.

Me too! I’m staying at my parents’ house for the weekend and I don’t think there’s a good place to snap a pic. But I will post them, I promise!
Is it weird that I have my center split but I’m a foot off the ground on both sides for front splits? Hrm. I’ve done a lot of yin yoga on my hip flexors, maybe I’ve just gotten them more open than I thought? I’m no anatomy expert so it seems weird to me. I feel like I’ve gotten them backwards.

oh what a fabulous thread idea!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i am going to have someone take some pics this weekend and have them put on dvd sop can post. if i warm up and stretch i can do a decent full split w L leg leading , but with R leg leading there’s a nice size gap between me and the floor. will have to really work on that side rather than getting lazy and relying on L leg all the time. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

count me in! I will try to get my pictures taken after my pilates class on thursday since I will have stretched already. or should I take them before class? either way I need accountability so I am reporting for duty! -

I used to have my right leg no problem…my left leg was always REALLY bad and I could do the middle for a nano second when I was still training. Honestly now I don’t think I will EVER get my left leg and my middle split chances are pretty iffy BUT I might be able to get my right leg back if I really work at it.
Even if I could get back just my right leg I would be ecstatic!!!

Hi Ladies,
I had my little girl try and snap a pic of my splits. ouch! I have a ways to go but this was after a pilates class. normally I am way off the ground. Wish me luck. I hope to have them by february. my birthday. i am 46 so I am really hoping to hurry and get this goal accomplished. happy poling! -

Wow Amcut, your pretty much there. I started my splits training at the end of aug,09. And started at 19 inches from my side splits last month I was down to 13 1/2 inches and about 6-8 inches in my front splits. Slow but surely. What program are you using to get into your splits. I am using Stacy semore splits and flexibility AND AM WAITING FOR THE GENIUS OF FLEXIBILITY; BOB COOLEY DVD.

The last bit seems to be what’s taking the longest! You’ve gotten quite far in these few months, though, Joni! Almost there for you too! I feel like I do everything, but nothing consistently! The weirdest thing is I felt my most flexible during the middle of p90x, and I didn’t stretch but twice a week- on yoga and stretch days.

Must make that a true priority in 2010!

I have not been stretching like I hoped I would (I blame the holidays). I will post a pic in about another 30 days to see where I am.

I have a recurring dream about doing the splits and I’ve had it since I was a child!
I’ve never been able to do them. Actually, I did it once, I was in dance class aged about 13 and I dropped too heavily and bounced into them but never again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But anyway, I’d love to be able to do the splits and I just haven’t found the motivation to stretch regularly. I guess winter doesn’t help!
This is an old photo (late 2008 I think) and I’m a little further than this now once I’m properly warmed up and have done specific stretches. I’m left handed and left leg leading is much better than right.
