Tips for warming up before stretching?
Posted by Camilla on November 1, 2011 at 5:11 amHi veeners! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
I want to begin stretching 2-3 times a week and have read that it's important to be warm before you stretch.
Therefore I was wondering what you guys do to get warm (if you haven't you been poling).
Thanks in advance! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hey 🙂 I just do some light aerobics to get my muscles warm…jogging on the spot, punching, things like that to the point I feel warm and a.bit.breathless x

I do mostly mobility exercises. Mobility is not the same as stretching. It's just to move the joints in different directions and warm the muscles up.
Here are some example exercises for the legs:
– circles/swinging around with the ankles, knees, the whole leg and the hips
– 10 squats; when you do the last rep rest in the bottom position for 10 sec, then do a squat walk across the room
– lunges: stand upright and pull one leg tucked to your chest, hold for 10 sec; then lower the leg down into a lunge, hold for 10 sec
– side lunges: stand upright with straddled legs, lower down to one side, the other leg stays straight, hold for 10 sec
– inchworm walks: from a plank position walk your feet towards your hands as far as you can get them; then walk your hands out so that you are in a plank position again; fom here walk the feet again towards your hands etc
– leg kicks in all directions
– sun salutations from yoga

I actually like to do the series of yoga poses by the Valentino brothers (on their stretching DVD). They are hard to explain though. If I’m feeling sultry, I’ll do a little chair and floor dance. 🙂

I do the Valentino Brothers warm up now too- its not too long but warns you u fast and really gives you an opportunity to stretch into the poses too

Thanks guys 🙂
However I don't know the dvd's you're refering to (I'm from little Denmark in Europe so don't think we have them here 🙂 )
But i'll google som yoga poses then – it sounds healthy and flexi 😉

this Basic Warm Up https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/80540840-b88a-11df-856f-001b214581be warms up your body and pole so it can be used before stretching or for preparing the body for pole dance! I also suggest a very hot bath before stretching.

I think the sun salutation IS the warmup in the valentino brothers dvds? At least it is for their beginner series.
Camilla, you can download these dvds online on their website https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I am unfortunately unfamiliar with Yoga terms, so it could very well be the sun salutation. All I know is it works well! I also will go for Veena’s suggested hot bath method. 🙂

Second the yoga sun salutations. Also sometimes I'll run in place for a few minutes or I'll do step-ups on my porch. Basically, I just step up on to the step like I'm going to go in, but instead of continuing to the door, I just put my foot back on the ground and repeat alternating legs. Depending on how cold your room is and how cold you get, having a space heater in the place where you stretch will help you stay warm while you stretch.

I like to go on my eliptical or stepping machine for 20-30 mins. That way im am killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I am getting my legs and arms really warmed up for stretching and getting my cardio workout too.
