To pole or not to pole….
Posted by johnssdeere on April 21, 2014 at 1:57 pmWhen you are sick do you prefer to sweat it out and push through on the pole or workouts or to really rest it out? I have such a hard time stopping for a few days and then starting up again, mainly because my body starts to ache inside and out.

I tend to still push it running when I’m sick (unless I’m running a fever or really really wiped out), but with pole, I tend to rest until I’m better. I figure with all the inverting and poses that require your strength not to give out (or else get injured if you fall) I’m not going to take a chance falling out of something because I’m feeling weak.

The general rule for working out when sick is if your symptoms are from the neck up like a head cold, sinus issues, then you can work out. If you have a fever, are achy or a stomach intestinal related issue rest. If you have sinus issues avoid doing to many inverted moves, this could aggravate it.

I usually rest because I get really fatigued, even with just a cold. Like yrngrl said, I just don’t take chances of falling because I’m weak. I just wish other women wouldn’t come to the studio while they had a cold. it spreads really quickly. sorry, I know that’s off topic… I’ve always heard the same advice that Veena gave about working out. But even then, sinus issues or colds make me feel so tired that I don’t want to work out. I guess in that case, it depends on how you feel if it’s just a head cold, etc.

@lilredrobinhood – I agree about spreading viruses around the studio I go to we wipe down with antibacterial wipes before and after each use to try and help cut some of that down. Otherwise if it’s a minor cold I still continue – fever or stomach viruses – no way!

I agree I wouldn’t pole in a studio sick I’m enough of a germ a phobe that when I had this stomach ailment I stopped for two weeks… That stomach ailment ended up being baby #3.

hehe! that’s funny johnssdeere 🙂 I don’t think that kind of stomach ailment is too contagious.
