I thought Luvlee or someone would’ve posted this video here. I don’t see a thread started on this so I wanted to post. The United Pole Artists created this video regarding the recent controversy regarding female marines and their inability to do 3 pull ups. I first heard this story the other day and thought to myself, hmph they should be doing pole dancing. LOL. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one with these exact thoughts.

I couldn’t do a pull up or even cross the monkey bars at the local park 6 months ago. I only train 2-3 hours a week and can do 3 pull ups no problem. I was amazed at how quickly I developed upper body strength doing pole. Loved the video!

I think the main issue is that they’re so used to training males. Men tend to react differently than women to training- where a man will develop muscle structure and upper body strength very quickly, women tend to hold on to their fatty goodness, and develop lower body strength. They’re just sending these women through “regular” bootcamp (I’m assuming, anyways) and are now, apparently, surprised that the women being trained can’t to pull ups.
I’d say… they have to look at it differently. Not necessarily pole dancing (though that would be an effective way of achieving what they want!), but just something different. Women have to be trained differently, they have different skills and different ways of moving.

I love this video. My boyfriend is a Staff Sergeant in The Marine Corp (I’m very proud of my honey). I was shocked when I learned of this. I immediately sent him the link to this video. I told him that my new fitness (non-pole) goals are to reach the fitness standards for the men. I know it will be challenging, but it will be a great motivator. Gotta love the strength that pole gives us!

That video made me smile. I thought the same thing when I heard they were delaying the standard–girls CAN do pullups. Sounds like they need better training!

I couldn’t do even one before I started pole. Now 8 months later I can do 10. I can’t believe how much strength you can gain from pole!
