Okay… excuse me while I vent a little… I am really struggling… I want so badly to be a pro pole performer and my local community that was once close knit is slowly falling apart due to us leaving a studio that I used to teach at… It was the right move to leave as poor management was costing me my passion… However I feel the plateaus getting stronger and more frequent and there is no "how to be a pro pole performer" manual out there and really need more resources… What can I do to make some hard core improvements in strength, flexibility, and overall stronger performances? What have you all found really jumps up your game? Stretching is almost getting no results and I am lifting small weights that is helping with some range of motion…Is my age working against me? I really need more ideas to fight off this discouragement… I figured if anyone will understand you guys will.. Thank for the advice!

I am sorry to hear that your community is falling apart. 🙁

There are a few different ways to help with plateaus – they won't work for everyone, but here are some that have worked for me (in various things, not just pole)

    – take a break. I know this sounds strange, but if you are doing pole every day, then your body may be too fatigued, and you need rest. Taking say 3 days off to just sleep and lounge around can do wonders.

    – start something physical but slightly different. Swimming is a great one, or something like martial arts, hoop or silks – working slightly different muscles (and their stabilizers) will give the main muscles you are working a bit of a kick.

    – Change your focus. This only has to be temporary – if you are primarily focusing on say, strength gains, spend say 4 weeks creating a routine that is purely about music interpretation, or doing certain things on the beat. Find a song you absolutely love, and focus on creating something that isn't about tricks, but rather beauty.

    – Work the opposite muscles. This is key to major strength gains – you need to work the muscles on the other side of the ones you want.

    🙂

You may also want to look into your nutrition/eating habits. I have let mine slip and I can definitely see a change in strength and mental attitude. I hope you come out of your slump soon :o) xoxo

Great advice! When I started doing some weights and Pilates stuff I noticed some pain subside so that is definitely helping…. why is food such a hard one?!?!! I am trying to incorporate more yoga to help with flexibility and control… I will have to try the routine idea that sounds good, and never thought of that one! Thanks!!!
