Transitions out of Brass Monkey
Posted by Mindy4pole on January 12, 2010 at 6:55 amSo, I can get into brass monkey most of the time now (from CAR, not mounting into it), but I can’t figure a way out…
My leg always gets wound around the pole and sort of stuck, and I have to oh-so-sexily pull it off. I can disguise this by pretending I’m doing some sort of inverted v, but I’d rather so something better! <My camera won’t video anymore, so I can’t really demonstrate.>
Any tips?

Hiya,
i was just playing with this move today!!
what i usually do is a foot lock (thats what we call it in nz, not sure if its the same where you are??) and pull myself up into a seat.
so..
using the leg thats not hooked on the pole, hook your foot around the pole and pull up, grab with your hands and sit!!
hope that makes sense?
best of luck xx

i usually do this into a pole sit but you can also do a pretty bow and arrow or go into an ayesha. i do it here (haha i JUST uploaded this!) about 2/3 of the way thru =)

I also do the footlock to pole sit…but if I’m up high enough I’ll do a flag dismount to pole sit

I know this is so not the point of the post but how do you get into brass monkey from the CAR??

hiya,
What i do is do the CAR, the twist my body around so my arms are in the flagpole position, then just kinda slide myself into the brass monkey.
hope that makes sense!

Does anyone know of a tutorial on this one? Very cool move, but I can’t seem to figure it out…. maybe my arms just don’t bend that way. Looks like a lot of strain on the wrists

And you know, I don’t even do the flagpole position/grip quite right… I just can’t really feel the grip. But when you let your body twist around the pole, your leg just hooks on and really stays. That’s why I need help getting out! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif This is also one that is a lot easier for me on taller poles. I need a little distance to slide into position.

THANKS! I think I have done the foot lock a time or two just to keep from hitting the floor. Now I have a game plan for that and the ayesha. Now I’ve just got to get the grip secure!

Thank for explaining how to get into it from CAR! The only way I got into brass monkey before was kicking from the ground. It doesn’t look graceful at all and I never used it to a routine. Sliding down from the CAR is so much easier and prettier!

I go into a foot lock, then a Half Moon, an Archer or Pencil/Iguana Grip Bow and Arrow, or just sit straight up. Can also do the foot lock and release it to do other stuff from a pencil grip. I’ve also just handstanded down using forearm grip (feel like I’m going to land on my head though).
