    Hi everyone,

I’m new to pole and to this blog, and I feel silly asking this question but I googled it and haven’t been able to find anything.

I was doing Felix Cane’s flexibility video and I think I stretched a tiny bit too far because I have a little tweak in my right hamstring. It doesn’t actually hurt and I can walk/run fine, but it just feels like…..there’s something there, just an odd sensation almost. I’m sure some of you know what I mean.

What do I do? Do I stop stretching my hamstrings? For how long…? Do I stop working out all together? I want to keep progressing and working on strength/flexibility but I don’t want to make it worse. Any advice appreciated 🙂

    Hey there!
Welcome to the SV forums, to pole, and to the community!
It sounds like you pushed your hamstring a little too far, and in that case, I would say REST! Don’t try to stretch it any more, let it rest so it can repair itself.
The dangerous part here is that, if you continue to push it too far, you can damage your hamstring, and actually lose a lot of flexibility and possibly damage it. This can be a pretty big detriment to… well, life! So, please be careful!

I would go see a doctor and figure out what happened. if you tore a hamstring it will need to be rehabilitated. without knowing what’s going on you wont know how to treat it. I wouldnt do any stretching or exercise until you get it looked at. if it is torn, it will tear even more if you exercise or stretch it.

If you use the search function in the upper right of your screen and search hamstring you will find lots of discussions about hamstring injuries. I’ve had an injury caused by working on splits in a yoga class for more than 8 months. MRI is normal so no tear but it feels almost exactly the same as it did when it happened. I’m starting myofascial release massage and acupuncture with my sports medicine doc. Good luck–these injuries can hang on quite a while. I hope yours heals quickly.

I tore mine 6 months ago working on oversplits. 🙁 it wasnt painful, just felt weird. but I definitely tore it. 6months later and Im almost back to where I was when I tore it. Mine was a minor tear and I feel like it will be many more months of hard work to regain my flexibility.

I don’t think you should stop working out all together. Strength building can be good for your injury. So as long as training doesn’t feel totally wrong, keep doing that, but be very careful with stretching (if at all).

I have never been quite sure either about continuing with stretching or strengthening when something just feels a little funny. As I am in a very early stage of training and poling, I keep on the safe side and just stop or go lighter. Learn to listen to my body and go at my own pace.
