I’m thinking about going, maybe a workshop, too… but my husband’s great-grandmother’s 90th birthday is the 20th and he can’t go, so I’d be going alone. And time is probably running out on the workshop slots, too.

And with the workshops, how do you pick which one you want??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I was poking around (right up until you enter credit card info) and it never asked which one.

Anyone know when time runs out so I know when I have to make up my mind? I saw they’re sending out emails about the workshop locations on Feb, 1st…

for the USPDF workshops thru NYPD, you need to buy the workshop and then after you purchase it you have the option to schedule it for whatever class slot you want.

HOLD THE PHONE!!!! Remember when we did the Baltimore trip thread? How we listed who was going??? Can we do that again for this thread?? I was thinking of visiting my friend in NYC in March- but not go to the USPDF because that’s too expensive. But I’d love to meet up with everyone one night if you all go out or get together….I’m still thinking about it, not 100% sure I’m going yet. OH! And when IS the competition date to and from?

i’m not quite sure what you guys did in the baltimore thread, but the competition itself is march 19th (friday). the amateur comp is at 1pm and the pro is at 7:30.

i live in NYC so i’m here all the time! i’d be happy to meet up with you ladies.

right now i’m signed up for:

    thurs- jenyne @ NYPD
    sat- amber @ NYPD

and i’m planning to sign up for karol and alethea on sun at B&P.

    Thanks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I haven’t committed to anything yet… Still wondering what would be the easiest way to get down there and where I’d stay. I’d rent a car but I’m scared out of my mind of driving in NYC. I could fly, but I’d have to take a cab to get anywhere and I’ve never taken a cab before. *sigh* I think I’m worrying too much… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

But I do have an idea https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif : maybe we can all form little Studio Veena groups to kinda stick together. You know, book hotel rooms together, go out for meals and such together, etc. and split the costs. Would save money for everyone and people like me wouldn’t have to worry about being alone. Anyone up for that???

For instance, I’m from the Southern Tier of NY, near Binghamton – about a 4 hour drive from NYC. If a few girls wanted to meet me in Binghamton I’d be willing to rent a car and drive us to wherever we’re staying in NYC. We’d book hotel rooms together. We could take cabs while we’re in the city so we don’t have to worry about getting lost and parking. Then on Sunday or Monday morning (depending on who has workshops when) we drive back to Binghamton and head our separate ways. We’d all split the costs of the rental car, hotel, cab fares, etc. Just an idea.

Im up for it, I think thats the only way I could get up there. Im really waiting on Uncle Sam to give me my tax $ so I can get my car back on the road. I soooo want to go to this, but the car comes first. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Hey everyone! I was told I should join this group, as there might be some questions people have and I would be able to easily answer… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
So I am happy to introduce myself to all of you whom I haven’t met yet, I’m Lian, from Body & Pole NYC. I feel so out of the loop not knowing about this forum…but i am super excited to finally be a part of it!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I know some of you were confused as to the USPDF weekend workshops, so I would like to clear things up a bit.
I am NOT affiliated with Wendy & Anna’s Federation as a studio, I AM a USPDF member as i was also one of the top 12 original contestants last March here in NYC and was lucky enough to meet all these amazing women and make some great friends. I have been teaching pole dance for about 2 years out of my home studio, and finally got lucky enough to find the space I moved into a month ago. Body & Pole finally became a reality, and now it is a real studio, about 500 square ft, with 4 poles. Our ceilings are 14ft, the highest out of all the studios in the city. It is still a small space, and i chose to put only 4 poles up so that there is more room between the poles, instead of cramming one more pole just so i can maybe make more money.
I decided it would be great to have more than one studio offering workshops for all the women coming to NYC for the USPDF, and as I am a brand new studio, I decided to set the price to only $60 instead of $75 per workshop at NYPD. I also remember what it felt like when I went to VA and could only afford 2 workshops but wanted to take many more…
The classes are ALL open level. ALL the instructors will work with you in your level, so even if you can’t invert yet, you will be just fine.
I also decided to open my studio for all of you to come and play on the poles for only $10, as I know how much money you are all spending already, and want to make this a fun trip for everyone, and get to meet as many of you as possible.

So Please come by Body & Pole when you are in NYC, even if it is just to say hi and introduce yourself to me.

I am super excited to be a part of this beautiful community.
    XOXOXOXOXO
    Lian

I think it’s so cool of you to open up your studio for us to pole around in. I look forward to checking it out and climbing one of those 14 footers!

    Hey ladies,

In case you are still deciding which workshops to take, here is my workshop desription:

In this workshop, we will start with exercises specific for injury prevention. Amber will teach you how to strengthen you rotator cuff muscles before showing you how to improve your flexibility and strength in a safe manner. You will then learn a routine incorporating tricks, transitions, and floowork. Amber will show you how to construct a balanced choreography and will break down each movement so that it is appropriate for all levels while teaching you her signature balletic style which emphasizes extensions and fluidity.

I am teaching a workshop for USPDF on satuday March 20th from 7:00-8:30pm and another at Body & Pole (Lian Tal’s studio) on sunday March 21st from 10-11:30am.

    Update:

My USPDF "Pole Choreography" workshop on saturday is full! However, there is still room in my sunday March 21st workshop at Body & Pole from 10-11:30am. It is a "Conditioning and Flexibility" workshop, here is the description:

In this workshop, we will start with exercises specific for injury prevention. Amber will teach you how to strengthen you rotator cuff muscles before showing you how to improve your flexibility in a safe manner. She will then teach you floor combinations using her signature balletic style which emphasizes extensions and fluidity.

I may add another workshop on sunday that will focus on polishing tricks (extensions, lines, hands, etc) so I will keep you posted. I hope to see many of you there https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
