    Hey everyone,

I’m getting on to the point where I want to start doing more difficult moves on my pole (ie. inversions with bracket hands such as butterfly) but I’m struggling to build up my upper body enough to manage it. I’ve tried various on and off pole exercises (push ups, rows, flys etc etc.) but my upper body just doesnt seem to have the ‘umph’?

Any tips on upper body workout regimes to help with my dancing?

    Love love x

if you’ve ever done yoga, downward dog is incredible for strengthening the entire arm. (actually, if done correctly, it strengthens every muscle in the body)
other than that, i can think of nothing.
I exercised alot when i did rollerderby (yoga, weights, pushups, etc) but nothing made my arms as strong as poling. using the arms in the basic climbs is the only thing that made my scrawny spaghetti arms muscular at all. it didn’t happen over night tho…

There are a ton of things you can do for upper body it all depend on what you have access to for equipment.

    Pole
    Free Weights
    Weight Machines
    Resistance bands
    Fit Ball
    Body weight
    TRX

What do you want to use out of these? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_santa.gif

    Thanks for your replies everyone,

At the moment I’m too skint to pay for gym membership but come january I’ll join back.

I think maybe a mixed approach might help? Plan is: mix off all the things you suggested plus perhaps a yoga class to improve my flexibility as my hamstrings appear to be made of rope and I can’t keep blaming my height. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I’m determined to be able to do a handstand this year. I’ll let you know how I get on!

    Love love xx
