I had been working on this move for a little bit now and I still don’t feel secure enough to straighten my top leg all the way. I managed to do it if the room is extremely hot and I’m in bare feet, but most of the time, I’m stuck with my bottom leg straight and my top leg hooked around the pole for dear life. I’m not sure what the ideal hand placement is either. I’ve seen it done by hooking the elbow as well as by hands, which one is best to learn with? Where should my hands be on the pole in relations to my bottom leg?

Any help would be great! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

hm, have you tried close to the ground? with a spotter? it’s tough to say what you are or aren’t doing!
i’ve seen a few different hand positions… see below and the attached pic.

I have a lesson coming for the Aerial/Inverted Pole Split. I enter into it from a Star there are a few different hand placements I’ll be demonstrating as well. One tip is to be sure your hooked leg in the Star is very secure before moving into the pose. This will allow you to move your hands around. I like to hold my hands in an X position or with the inside arm wrapped around my lower leg and pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks! I’m trying from the star as well, I’ll wait for the lessons. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
