Veena,I skimmed through this series of posts…as I was somewhat familiar with your situation from earlier.

To me, the most upsetting aspect of this situation is the lack of professionalism from the doctor and his refusal to take you seriously..or even listen long enough to make a diagnosis..or determine that the matter was out of his area of specialty.

    I hoping things will improve…

Likewise, Fleur…I hope your shoulder situation improves also. I was encouraged by your experience with the doctor because…and I hate to say this…but I had a sneaking suspicion that gender and the nature of the injury were contributing to the brush off that Veena was getting. I hate to "see" sexism everywhere..but sometimes you do kind of wonder about stuff like that!

When my knee was screwed up a fe years back…I saw the sports guy by chance…his day on duty. He got the bike riding thing right away and gave me all these handouts on icing, heating, stetching, etc… took the time to listen to what I was saying…

Ok I thought I should give you all an update on the arm problem.
I was FINALLY able to meet with a physical therapist yesterday. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif 9 frickin weeks after the pain started…

After going through some exercises and finally having someone listen to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif we were able to figure out the problem (hopefully). His conclusion,… it is not a tear or tendinitis of some sort but a tracking issue with my elbow!! I have the ability to hipper extend my elbows… more so on the left, which is the arm that hurts. This ability can cause problems and I’m pretty sure it was the TWISTED GRIP HANDSPRING that brought on my problem. After going through some exercises and finally having someone listen to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif we were able to hopefully figure out the problem. This all seems to make more sense than the epicondylitis (tennis or golfers elbow) theory. I had done waaaaayyyy more pole dancing when I first started learning to pole, than what I have done after Henry. So my only thought on that was over use from holding him and poling. I’m glad thats not the problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

He was pretty annoyed that it took this long for me to get into PT, he said I should have been doing exercise weeks ago!@! So…..I have some exercises to work on and some ummm… I guess you could call it manipulation, I need to do with my elbow, before I lift weights or pole dance. Now that I know (I hope) what the problem is I have my brain going and have some thought on how I can fix this problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif The poor tracking also seemed to be irritating my already damaged unlar nerve (not pole related). Which is why I had more tinging after dancing or triceps training. He didn’t really say that the tracking problem could be fixed, but I am determined to find a way to fix it!! IF anyone has info on this for me I would love to hear it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hey Veena….I had the same problem your describing about 8 months ago….on the advice of a PA I went to a Chiropractor…they are very knowledgeable with nerves. I had nerve impingement and after an adjustment in my cervical spine and my elbow the numbness and tingling went away. Because of the type of movements that pole requires we are not always aware of what we are putting our vertebrae through…it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not we are strong enough or conditioned enough…our bodies still get a jolt…and YES it does cause muscle weakness etc. if it is not properly treated. Regular Docs. don’t have the expertise or knowledge base that a chiropractor does…unless they are experts in Neurology….and more times than not they only make guesses and treat the symptoms and not the cause (That’s a statement from the PA I spoke with). It would be worth looking into…I know it was the best $40 bucks I ever spent!

Just a quick post to let everyone know that this was a post from a long time ago. It seems to have resurfaced because someone responded to it. Veena is doing great and her arm has never felt better.

Oh noooo Veena! I hope you find out what’s wrong and feel better. I know how you feel I strainedx a muscle picking up a tote at work. I looked inside and it was those huge cans of glory greens! My arm hurt for months. The worse pain I ever felt. I thought I would be damaged for good but a little theropy helped a lot. Maybe some ibuprophen and arm stretches will help. I sure hope it does. Feel better soon.

Oh thanks guys!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif …..I’m fine now and that was months ago. I still have to be careful and go easy on the split grips. I did finally figure out what I did to my arm, I don’t know why I didn’t realize what it was right away but….I wrote a blog about it so if you want to know what happened you can read about it here.
