If you’re working with a PT ask what they suggest as a replacement they see fit. 😉

I’m finding the roll up to be really hard on my lower back. It feels like muscle soreness to me, because when my lower back connects with the floor as I roll up, it hurts. I only feel the discomfort when there’s pressure on my back rather than just sitting or standing around.

I’m not sure how to fix this or avoid the discomfort.

Is it maybe just that my lower back muscles are lacking strength, maybe?

It should not be back strength. You must REALLY curl before lifting, if you are trying to pull up with legs straight and arching the back at all you’ll feel strain

You could try recording yourself to see of you are doing it correctly as well.

That’s a great idea. I’ll watch the video again really carefully, and then I’ll video myself to check in doing it right. Thank you! 🙂

Thanks Veena. I gave my pt the muscle groups that stretch strengthens and he said he’d have to give me an exercise each group. Lame!! But I will deal ha! So i guess I’ll scratch the camel and replace it with a reverse trunk twist!! That’s Stretch feels good and im hoping it will do.

Hmmm Shoogstandley, the camel is for the most part a mobility for the back/spine ‘stretch’, the reverse trunk twist is a strengthening exercise. You will have to ask for a stretch that he feels you can perform safely with your tendency to be hyper mobile. If you naturally overextend your back, then skip that part all together.

Have you looked in to working on the posture portion of this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ3V_2DsxgE

Yes actually I have been working on my posture since a few months ago. I can really tell a difference in my posture when I check myself to the pole, that has been helpful thank you for that ! I will say I def feel a huge difference when my posture is crap, it’s almost like the strength exercise or stretch packs less effectiveness ! I’ll watch this vid before I do the abs day for next few days Thanks again Veena

So, I looked at the demo of the roll up really carefully, and tried it again, paying close attention to my body. I’ve discovered it’s my upper back that’s hurting, not my lower back as I first thought.

It was hurting all across the muscles around and slightly below the scapula.

So I pulled my elbows in towards each other and held my back muscles really strong, and that seems to hurt less, or hardly at all.

    Gosh it’s getting hardcore.
The leg lifts are killer, couldn’t manage 35 without stopping today.

This is my two-year-old, who seems to think that the roll up exercise is some sort of a bed. He put the pillow there, pulled up the end of the yoga mat over him like a blanket, and said, ‘Nigh!’

He took the iPad to bed with, too. LOL! 😀

Hahah, that’s pretty funny! I have a photo where my youngest made an fort or was it a car parking lot, on my xstage.

I’m still hanging in there. It’s getting harder… but I feel like I’m getting stronger! I also feel it in my arms after those knee tucks.

At some point I should probably watch my diet so maybe at some point I can see these abs that I’m developing. Haha…

You know what they say, “Abs are made in the kitchen”… but so are Pizza and Cookies. 😛

Still going here. Abs definitely stronger but carbs have crept up as husband been off work for a fortnight so might have to get hardcore for the last week!
