I'm not sure if this should go in this thread, but HELP!!!!!!!! My new laptop doesn't have WMM which I used to use to make videos. It was so simple and idiot proof- right up my alley. Now I'm not sure what to use. I went to Target (*swoons* i love Target) but they only had really expensive, very technical programs.

What can I use/buy/download where I can edit pictures and also videos????? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_safesex.gif <– I'll use that guy since I'm sure he's underused. LOL! xoxo -SP

What type of laotop did you get? Usually they come with software that has movie maker programs on them and you may need to reinstall your software package.

Sascha, if you use Windows, which you apparently do, you can Google for Windows Movie Maker, download and install it. It's possible that Microsoft decided to not include it with its standard software package anymore (which would surprise me, they're usually trying to shove programs down your throat whether you want them or not ).

You may have already done this (I'm not sure where you usually go to access the program) but I would double check your Program Files folder to make sure that it's truly not there first. My Computer > Local Disk C: > Program Files > Movie Maker (I'm pretty sure that's the file path… that's from memory because I don't use Windows anymore). If you don't see it then you should be able to find it online. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

wmm came with my netbook but like what Journey said you can probably download it.

WMM must of done an upgrade b/c I was so used to the layout that I could probably edit with my eyes closed. Now Im spending half my time looking for what I need.

Riddlebox – Any Video Converter is my favourite free video converter – just Google for it. Does audio too. 🙂

The newest windows movie maker is stripped down and doesnt have the same features. Experienced users will want to continue with what they've become accustomed to. It turns out the special Vista edition MM2.6 downloads, installs and works fine on Windows 7.

Yes, Sascha…I agree. I just got a brand new Vaio laptop and the stripped down Movie Maker is a disaster. Fortunately, I kept my old E-machine hooked up and I will just wait the 6 1/2 minutes it takes to boot the old war horse up and connect to the FLIP because it has all of the great features for making videos.

I'm sure that any of you would be able to find and download an older version of WMM with no problems, as Velvetvixen eluded to. There are entire websites dedicated to providing previous versions of software programs. However, I would check to make sure that your system doesn't try to upgrade it behind your back; check your package lists from Automatic Updates before you install them. It may leave it alone – who knows. *shrug*

If anyone knows of simple, user-friendly video editing software for Linux, let me know. I've tried a couple programs (Kdenlive and Cinelerra) and have a couple more on my list to try out, but none of them are nearly as straightforward as WMM. It's one of the few Windows program that I miss, even if it made my computer crash when I was using it…

This is the link I used to download the old version of WMM: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=D6BA5972-328E-4DF7-8F9D-068FC0F80CFC&displaylang=en

What happened is Microsoft started from scratch, to make it part of their "Live" suite (Windows Live Messenger, formerly msn, etc), and will slowly build the old features back in. They are aiming for a "really easy for beginners to use" style interface, which unfortunately often translates to "doesn't do half the stuff I want it to". But rest assured, they are aware of the outcry and they know people hate the new version, haha!
