Wanting to perform at events… Ideas on rates?
Posted by Danielle Tillie on July 10, 2013 at 2:54 pmHey everyone! So pokeyd and I have reached out and offered our services as pole dancers to the local rock station for their events. We got a response (yay!) asking about our rates. The thing is, we don’t really know what we’re worth! Has anyone been paid to perform at an event? Does anyone have an idea what typical dance performers are paid for this sort of thing, like hoop girls or go-go dancers or aerialists? Thanks for the input! 🙂

It really all depends on the amount of time you are on stage. MINIMUM should be $50 per performer, and that is just to show up and set up and perform one song. That is a choreographed song. If you are freestyling and just eye candy then you can lower the rate for a set amount of time. Again though, accept no less than $50 per person.
The only time you should perform for free is if it is a charity event that you support or if it is a big event and you are getting top billing and will possibly get other work out of it. Those should be kept to a minimum though.
There was a discussion somewhat recently on stripper style that I will see if I can find.
Oh, also if it is an event make sure you get comp passes for stage kittens or set up people. Typically they will allow 1-2 people per performer to get in free.

I hate to say this but radio stations are typically the WORST to work with. Make sure that you have in writing the amount of clothing that will be left on and what the DJ can and cannot say. DJ's are typically pigs and will do anything for ratings or applause and usually that means demeaning women.

Yes I know it is a possibility that they’ll be demeaning, but I’ve got a tough skin when it comes to that. I intended to have that discussion and certain details in writing should they choose to book us.

I looked up that thread and there was not much except that no one should work for free. For some reason I thought there was something on this forum at one point, also.

aw man, I got 40 bucks for an event I danced two songs at… now I feel ripped off.

I agree w. Chemmie. If I'm putting together a choreo-ed routine with a unique theme and costume I need to be paid at least 50/routine. If you just want me to get up there and freestyle and have fun and it's cool to wear whatever generic costume I already own, I'll go down to as low as 20/song. If I have to bring and set up my own x-stage, that goes up significantly. I will work charity events for free as long as I get at least 1 preferably 2 guests in free to help with xstage set up/transport.

I perform pretty regularly at a local bar for some friends and typically make 20-30 per song freestyling, but I also get total promotion for my studio for new students and clients looking for parties, future performances etc. Otherwise it depends on the event, the reach it will get, and expectations of performance. Typically minimum 50/song, bigger events around 75. Dealing with rude a**holes is also a totally legitimate extra charge 🙂

Hi Danielle! I've been performing for a couple of years now. This is what I typically charge:
$75 for (1) 15 minute set
$125 for (2) 15 minute sets
$150 for (3) 15 minute setsI try not to do more than 3 sets, because I just get so sweaty from the heat of the crowd and/or the venue, which in turns tires me out faster. If I'm just performing to 1 song I usually charge the $75. I have an xstage, that I have to set up every time, so that goes into the pricing. If there is already a pole installed at a venue, I will come down a little in my pricing. When I gogo dance, I usually make $100 for (3) 30 minute sets. And to just give some advice based on my experience, I HIGHLY recommend you have a security guard or bouncer standing by you while performing. And try to separate your stage from the crowd, whether it's with a rope or if it's in a separated staging area. I've had a few bad experiences performing in clubs, where the crowd is waaaay too close to me, which I hate. It leaves me no room to do anything, people are trying to touch me, or they are trying to jump on my pole! So now I reinforce that the venue provides security and a rope whenever I perform! Hope this helps! And good luck!!

Agree with Chem. I wouldn't perform for less than $50 (that would be for one song). Taking into account setting up a pole and I would up that to at least $75.

this is a great idea! I wonder what company or where would you guys go to in order to offer your dancing services? This sounds a lot of fun. I'd love to do the same 🙂
