    Katas are usually a lot longer, and incorporate many different kinds of moves, often (but not always) centered around a particular stance or idea.

    So I don't think those are quite long enough to be considered "katas" 😉

    I've seen Chinese polers do the pole switching, but normally the poles are a lot closer together. 🙂 This performance was a joy to watch live.

    The wushu compulsory forms are quite long. These were just bits and pieces from whole form (kata).

    As the others said – he is using parts of the forms (chinese) which is different from katas (japanese) in that they tend to be less drill based. Just a different interpretation of a similar idea. 🙂
