What am I doing wrong ???? aarrrrr
Posted by Kamilla-Denmark on November 3, 2009 at 5:34 pmOKay, so I got the scorpio the other day… I did it several times again and again .. no problems.. – but now I just can’t get it.. Im trying, doing all the same stuff I was doing the other day, but I just keep falling or sliding down the pole.. I don’t think it’s cause of the weather because Im able to do every other spin I tried with no problems.. Have any of you experinced not being able to get a move you just got the other day ?

Maybe your over thinking it? Have you tried just dancing around to some great music, and giving it a try here and there, not focusing on if you get it? I know this has happened to me, I over think something and then I just make it harder!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif It will come to you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

OMG YES!!! this happens to me all the time. Its very aggravating aint it!! lol… i just keep on trying or try another new move. I dont know why this happens- i have just accepted it for the most part. Sorry this dont help ya much. Just wanted to let ya know you’re not alone! I dont think you are doing anything wrong though….

I think you are right, Veena.. Maybe I am over thinking it.. expecting to get it in the first try just because I got it the last time I practiced.. Maybe I just have to give it some time, and the next time I practice I will give it another go.. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Hils – That gives me some reasurance to know that I’m not the only one.. I was like WHAT ? ? What is wrong with me? Why can’t I get it.. – But now that I know it happens to other people aswell I feel a bit better, cause that must mean it will go away … (hopefully) LOL..
I just tried it again, by the way, and it was like I got a little closer – it hurt ALOT though, even more than it did the first time.. Maybe it’s cause I wasn’t proberly warmed up. I did do a loong warm up, but there is so freakin’ cold in my room, so even though I feel like im sweating the skin on my theighs are really cold. Do you guys think that could have something to do with the fact that I’m not sticking proberly ??
Thanks for responding to quickly https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

when you’re warming up, you have to warm up your pole also. you will NOT stick to a pole that is cold!!!

I know I did warm up the pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Did alot of different spins on it for about half an hour before I started trying the scorpio.. That should be enough right? Anyways I though the pole was warm enough, it was the skin on my legs that wasn’t.. lol

learning a new move is both physical and mental! Sometimes it takes a little while for the "muscle memory" and your brain to work hand in hand!
This ALWAYS happens to me when I learn a new move…
I think of it like taking a day off in between work outs so my body can repair…it’s kinda the same thing…some times you just need to take time away from it to let your brain "learn" how to do it! does that make sense?? lol

This happens to me too and it’s so frustrating – and scorpio is one of the current offenders! Whenever I get a new move, it’s kind of a crapshoot for a while how consistently I’ll be able to do it, and then the more I practice and keep sprinkling it in it will eventually smooth out. But in the meantime it’s annoying! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
I also have to recognize when to walk away from a move – I want to force it sometimes, and some days it just isn’t going to happen (cross ankle release, I’m looking at you). So I practice other stuff and come back to it another day when it will come back around! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I forget stuff all the time. I’ll be concentrating on a new move – the ayesha has been the biggy for ages now – and then I go back to something that I have been able to do, like scorpio, and my body has just forgotten how to do it.
One of the things I like about pole is the fact that I have to keep up to all the moves so that I can keep them at a consistent level so you are constantly learning and imroving – keeps my interest then like no other exercise has been able to do in the past. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
It’ll come back to you, don’t worry https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheese.gif

I had this problem with the corkscrew–most annoying spin EVER!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif I did it twice while showing someone what it was, and I’ve never done it again. I can get partway around the pole, but no double spin like before! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif Joel Lessing has a term for this, he calls it "the move stealer", lol!

i live in pennsylvania and it feels like 20 degrees outside. So, i went and bought a space heater to stick in front of my pole to help get it started warming up. I hate feeling like i am sliding down a huge icecicle!!! lol… then i warm up the rest of the way with my body. it has been working for me..

wow I was just about to post about the exact same thing! the other day I just decided to try a inv crucifix and got it, and today I just keep sliding on down the pol! I even tried spraying myself with hairspray! I was thinking that possibly my thighs didnt realise it was painful until after the first time and then it decided "oh no wait! that hurts!" or something https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Maybe your knee-hold pain is doing the same thing? you might have to wait for it to forget it hurts!

Thank you so much everyone for all your advice. – Hils, the thing about the heater sounds really good. i think Im goona try that for a while and see if it works. I think it will actually, because now that its winter here I can spend half an hour warming me and my pole up proberly, then I will do and invert wait 2 mins to do the next move and then the pole is cold and I have to start over with warming it. So I think I will try that..
As for all of your other reply’s it just make me feel so much better to know that apparently this is a common thing. Because I was really starting to think, what is wrong with me? LOL .. Im just gonna keep on trying and then it will proberly come back to me..
— and about the inverted crucifix.. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif – got that too, and now I can’t get it.. LOl.. It’s not even funny..

This happens to me everytime I get a new move. I’m actually more suprised if I get a move and then get it again the next time I try.
I usually just shelf it for a couple of days and try again later. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
