@KuriKat: My team mates at work know. But I'm "strange" so no one is too surprised no matter what I do…

I'm almost 24 years old and I've been working at a commercial real estate appraisal firm as an analyst for two years. I got my Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A&M University in 2010. My job is fairly boring, but I find it interesting in a way. Each new property always brings something different.

Basically, I do background research on the properties we appraise on things like tax structure, demographics, employers, employment trends, neighborhood growth, market trends for that property type, flood zones, environmental hazards, etc. I also write the front half of the report describing the details of these things as well as describing the particulars of the subject property we're appraising. Basically, I write the part of the report that no one reads. It's all about the number at the end. I do like my job, but it's stressful because I am the designated analyst for two appraisers. Normally, it's one analyst for each appraiser, but there aren't enough and I was the one chosen to pick up the slack. I struggle to meet deadlines for both of them and am feeling a bit burned out. I am taking classes through the Appraisal Institute with hopes of getting my MAI years down the road. The AVERAGE age for MAIs (Member Appraisal Institute – it's a professional designation, like CPA) is 55 years old. MAIs are few and far between and very valuable, and the vast majority of those who have them are approaching retirement. It takes many many years to get one, but I'm working on it, and if I choose to stay in appraisal, it would go a long way toward helping me get a job practically anywhere.

In the past, I've worked as an accounting intern for the corporate office of a large Dairy Queen franchise (39 stores), as a bank teller, a loan secretary in the same bank, and as a data processor, also for the same bank. So, Lavona, I certainly know what you mean about people in banks.

When I'm not working, I like to do crafts, pole, and play with/train my dogs. I also volunteer my time at a high-kill shelter here in Houston, helping walk dogs, bathe dogs and puppies, and council adopters. When I go to volunteer, I normally end up staying there 6 to 8 hours, so it's almost like I "worked" there that day. Still, I love doing it. Most people don't understand why because it's so sad, but I figure that if I can be a bright spot in that animal's day, I've done some good for it, even if it dies tomorrow.

Oh my goodness! I didn't realize how long that was. Man, I tend to ramble. I apologize!

I am a hairstylist. One of my clients had asked me to join a pole dancing class with her and I have been hooked ever since. I have told all my co workers, friends, family and even some clients that I pole dance. I get mixed reviews on the subject but that’s their problem not mine. Usually the conversation starts with how did you get that bruise? Lol

I own a full service Pilates Studio for post-rehab and fitness clientele. I've developed my own Pegasus Barre Fusion Certification ( a blend of Pilates and Barre Techniques) program. I am also in the process of getting it approved by ACE and AFFA. I added Aerial Fitness to the mix and I am currently looking to expand and take that to a second location. (My Pilates studio is a little small to really be able to do the Aerial work justice, but we still have a great time!)

Laundry and dishes….aka Full Time Mom…LOL. I dabble as a seamstress – costumes, custom corsetry and specializing in 18th century reproduction clothing. I also teach pole conditioning classes, supervise open studio time and sub here and there for other instructors.

But I went to school for esthetics, worked as a make-up artist, flight attendant, had kid one, went back to working in salon then opened my own salon, became a single mom, worked as a production manager/ pharmacy tech for a long-term care pharmacy then moved and went into medical billing…got remarried and now happily stay at home doing a little bit of everything.

I work as a licensed civil engineer doing project managment in municipal wastewater design. I work with mostly men … in fact, my immediate co-workers are all men … so I don't usually talk about pole at work.  All of the 7 women that work on my floor DO know that I pole, though, and are very interested in trying it one day! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif  Oh … and my boss knows that I pole.  I had to tell him when he called me in to ask about the bruises he sees on my legs/arms.  Gotta love a concerned boss!

I’m a Web and iOS programmer working in a university’s IT department. Currently working on an iphone/ipad app I think a lot of us pole dancers will enjoy using.(can’t wait to share here once it’s in the app store!) I’m also a freelance artist specializing in charcoal and color pastel drawings from photos.

@KuriKat The other faculty at the med school all know that I pole and are highly supportive. Our department chair regularly asks me if she can see my new pics. They are so proud about it that sometimes they even tell the med students and residents, and I cringe a little inside whenever I have to teach said students/residents haha! At the clinic though, only a few people know… my 2 assistants (they saw my bruises), one of the social workers and the psychiatrist. Someone told the SW about my bruises, and she approached me out of concern. Awwww… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif And the psychiatrist… well, at least she doesn't think I'm crazy lol! I think she's crazier… she used to start secretly gyrating behind everyone's back whenever she saw me coz she likes to tease me (in a friendly way) about pole. I had not-so-nice comments from another colleague at the clinic about me doing aerials though, so I can just imagine what his reaction would be like if he heard that I pole. As a result I try to be careful who I tell now. And I'll die if any of my patients ever found out! Lol! I already get so much flack for looking "too young" already! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
