What makes you happy?
Posted by headoverheels on July 10, 2012 at 8:15 pmHey ladies, today while out and about with my lovely boyfriend Justin,I started thinking about how lucky I truly am and how thankful I am for my perfectly imperfect life. So I challenge you all to make a list of things that make you happy and things you are thankful for.
Here’s mine…
1. Justin! He is amazing and my best friend. We would do anything for eachother and I’m so lucky to have him in my life.
2. An amazing little brother. He’s 11 years younger than me but I’m so proud of him and I love him so much.
3. Furry friends! Justin has three adorable kitties and I have a newfoundland dog who lives with my parents.
4. Good people!
5. Greek yogurt :p Best.Stuff.Ever.
6. Having a stable,usually pretty fun job!
7. Car rides with good music and the windows down
8. Cute shoes (: hehe
9. Being in good health! Such a blessing we take for granted sometimes!
9. All around good people in my life/great friends!
10. Going to sleep after a really tiring day.
11. Lazy days
12. The library!
13. Good movies! We watched Breakfeast at Tiffany’s the other night…love!!
14. Feeling beautiful and confident (on the days when that happens lol)
15. There is so much more but the point is,its wonderful to be able to really dwell on the GOOD things in life!SaschaPoles replied 12 years ago 36 Members · 39 Replies -

Aww what a lovely idea for a thread https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif.
I'm thankful and happy to be young, alive and healthy!
I'm thankful for my family, they mean everything to me
Living with my boyfriend makes me happy (when he's not making me feel like killing him ha!)
Seeing my school friends (we all live in different cities now and hardly ever see each other)
Pole and the rush I get from nailing a new trick/rediscovering an old one
Singing at the top of my lungs when nobody's around https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif especially in the car
Travelling and having fun new experiences (don't get to do as much as I'd like though)
Rose wine! Yummmmmmmmmmm
My bed (when I have it to myself & can starfish out)
Making friends with cats (My cat died just over a year ago and I can't get one at the moment 'cause of my rental contract, I'm a total crazy cat lady!)
And I'm with dustbunny on this one – Studio Veena!!

Yay! Everyone’s “happy lists” are so great! I feel like its so easy to get caught up in the stress and negative daily grind of life that I sometimes forget how magical the little things are…being a happy person comes from within and making sure to remember that has CERTAINLY made me happier…my dad always said (corny as I thought it was growing up lol) “Attitude is everything.” As I got older I realized how true that is. (:

I am very happy with everything in life right now. BUT, I am extremely happy to know I will see my dad (who passed away a few months ago) again someday! 🙂

Aww that’s wonderful Lyme…he’s always with you though (:

Way to many things to list – but here's a few…..
A perfect glass day on the lake when I'm wakeboarding/waterskiing
Sitting around a campfire with great friends
Nailing a new trick on the pole or, even better, seeing one of my students have a breakthrough on the pole (I've been known to get so excited I jump up and down and clap like a seal when they get something)
Having a piece of artwork come out just like I saw it in my head or, even better, having a custom piece come out just the way the customer wanted. I love that I can create something that can bring joy to someone else!
Coming over the lip of a ridge and suddenly realizing I'm at the peak of the mountain and the whole wilderness is spread out before me in panorama.
Having my 3 yr old neice say that her favorite part of her birthday was that my husband and I showed up for it.
Deer Camp – not so much the hunting (although I love that too) but the camraderie, the stories, the jokes, seeing friends and family that I only see once a year, really great food…
Completeing a renovation on my house by myself and having my husband go "Wow – you were right – it looks way better like that!"

Here's a great quote about Happiness I saw yesterday…
"A man asked Buddha, 'I want happiness.' Buddha said, 'First remove "I," for that is ego. Then remove "want," for that is desire. See now you are left only with Happiness."
I believe happiness comes from within. Hinging my happiness on things external to me that I cannot control sets me up for disappointment when those things fall through, or die, or move on, or can't be achieved. That said, here are a few things in life that help me cultivate a state of inner happiness:
-A husband and a dog who love me and express it daily
-A fantastic circle of close friends – and no drama!
-A job that challenges and fulfills me
-Scratching things off my to-do list
-Yoga and meditation
-Writing in my journal
-Writing fiction
-Engaging in writing circles with my peers
-Being outdoors on a lovely day
-Long walks/hikes in the woods
-Visiting museums and national parks
-Tent camping
-Positive and/or constructive feedback from my clients at work
-Owls
-Documentaries about nature, science and space
-Good science fiction, like Firefly and Doctor Who
-Dancing to a really fun song
-Autumn leaves
-"Family time" – when my husband, dog and I get in a big cuddle pile on the bed
