What the hell could I have done to my shoulder???
Posted by ARoulette on November 7, 2012 at 7:34 pmThe other day I was working out (strength training) push ups and things like that. Nothing out of the usual and no more then usual but since then I’ve had this naggy feeling in my deltoid. Its not sore from the workout like my other shoulder (you know that good after workout pain) but its not pain either. Its almost like a strain but it doesnt hurt. Like when I pick of my son it get the feeling and it makes me stop and think “what the hell?!” It’s not the whole deltoid either its just the middle part . Its almost like a string of muscle thats pulling and not the whole thing. If that makes since. I’ve just been doing basic floor work and not lifting myself because I,dont want to cause injury bit I dont know what to do to help the muscle either. And suggestions? Should I do more conditioning or just let it rest?

I was going to ask you if it was right under the shoulder head and right smack dab in the middle. I have gotten this pain from over exterting my pecs (read, doing push ups).

What are you asking me to link?
When I had this pain I also had pain to the touch in the D area of this photo:

For me it was that little triangle area between the top of the boob, bottom of the collar bone and leading into the arm pit. I would also get just a deep throb all the way down my arm and into my elbow when the knots under my shoulder blade got bad. For me it was more connective tissue and ligament pain than muscle pain.

I though (read, doing pushups) you where referencing a post you’ve made

Sorry, no, I meant interchange doing push ups with over exerting my pecs.

Oh boy, shoulders. They are temperamental buggers aren’t they? I can’t tell you what you might have done, not a doc, but what I can tell you is, listen to your body. If it hurts don’t do it. If it feels funny like it could be doing damage, don’t do it. Give yourself adequate rest and when ready proceed with extreme caution. Move slowly and deliberately the whole time paying attention for funny twinges, clicks or anything else that might seem out of order. Some things can be pushed through, some things must be rested, you will only know the difference by paying microscopic attention to your body.

this is EXACTLY where I had my weird pain after learning handsprings a little while ago! I've since taken a week off and have no pain at all (and think I have lost my handspring now too! …. ) I agree, it wasn't pain exactly, more a weird twinge that didnt "hurt" like usual but certainly didn't feel good or natural either. I think sometimes we accidentally use muscles in a different way, even if it's a move/exercise you're used to doing, and it just takes awhile to recover. I went running for the week to keep myself a bit motivated but didn't do anything shoulder-related. Hope it gets better!

right now im experiencing the same pain, but in both shoulders, more so in my right. and the disconforting sensation usually occurs when im trying to sleep, laterally raise my arms, or when i put pressure on them. im pretty sure its in my rotator cuffs as well, and that i got it from overworking my body, my current school is so stupid, they refuse to facilitate us with a proper dance room for dance majors, ppl in my class are getting hurt back to back, and on top of that we have 3 hour dance classes on thursdays and fridays no break in between. so when i went to my pole studio later that friday(the only time that works for me) we did climbing drills, and my body was already sore from all the movement we do with our arms. no recovery time.. but my question is how long has this problem been going on, when might it get better?

@Hazelnut I'm currently taking a week off as well. I'm having trouble getting back into the mode to pole though LOL. I'm going to try today to make sure that that feeling is gone
@Kaygee10 I took a week off and I'm going to try to pole today to see if I get that sensation when I lift. I can pick up my son and all those other things without feeling it so I think I'm good.

That right there ladies sounds like a cartilage issue. I had the same thing off and on when I first started to pole. Eventually It tore it and had to get surgery. Things to look for:
Sudden pain with certain movements
Clicking in the shoulder
and yes, pain in the middle of the deltoid.
It becuase on spins we put so much pressure on our shoulders in a forward motion. It's similar to the injuries football players get when they are about to throw and they get tackled by the arm – it forces the shoulder back. But it;s more of a repetitve stress injury for us than it is a traumatic injury.
The best thing you can do is rest, ice and Physical Therpay to build the muscles in the shoulder girdle.
