  • When to get a permanent ceiling mount?

Posted by Panix on July 22, 2015 at 1:03 am

Hi everyone! I just recently moved into a new house which has 10 foot high ceilings in the basement! I am very excited, but now I am wondering if I should get a permanent ceiling mount? I have an Xpole, and I know Xpole says to get one for over 11 feet high… But I am wondering if I should still get one with 10 feet? It just looks so high I feel like I would feel safer if it was permanent… So I’m just wondering what others have done? Does anyone have high ceilings and use just the tension mount? If so, do you still feel safe? Or should I buy a permanent mount for my own peace of mind? Thanks for any help!

My ceiling in my pole room in our new house is 11’4″. Xpole doesn’t mandate a permanent mount until 12 feet, but I feel much safer with the permanent mount. That way I know that the tension won’t give out and displace the dome. I am really happy with the permanent mount, and it doesn’t affect your ability to take down the pole just as you normally would.

I have only an 8 foot high xpole & use a ceiling mount which I can’t recommend enough! It’s way easier to take the pole down & back up & a lot safer too. No more worries about whether the dome is still holding firm as the mount block holds the top of the pole completely captive. I needed the mount as the the beam is too narrow for the dome to be used safely. The two little things either side of the mount are aerial fixings for a hammock.

There aerial fixing on the aides of the permanent mount?! Now I need to move my ceiling tile when I get home to check that out!

I LOVE my permanent mount and you should consider one regarless of height, makes it so quick to take up and down. However I don’t see any thing that you could attach a hammock to, so maybe that’s a new thing?

I just bought my permanent mount, and there is just the pole mount area and 4 screw holes… No places to put an aerial hammock on mine; I wish there were!

Sorry for the confusion everyone, I meant to include a piccy of my setup which shows the ceiling mount & two separate eye bolts next to it on either side! The picture didn’t load because my internet is so crappy here! Wow, that would be too perfect if x pole had thought to build them in.

haha That makes sense!! I was thinking that’s a great idea to include mounts for aerial equipment!

Thanks so much everyone for the replies! I am also thinking a permanent mount is the way to go! The more I think about it, I don’t think I would be comfortable with just the dome and such high ceilings… I also like that it sounds super easy to take up and down! Thanks for the help!

One thing I would mention Panix, if you have the X Pole without the little o-rings going round the pole-to-dome adaptor, then it can sometimes get stuck slightly in the ceiling mount & come crashing down just after you remove the pole! I have a nice dent in my wooden floor after this happened to me.
