Hi I am interested in starting to Pole dance for fitness and fun. I am currently very out of shape.. I’ve lost some weight since the start of the year and begin a “boot camp” class today that’s 4 days a week for 4 weeks. I have some dance (not pole) experience and would like to get back into dancer shape, I understand this will take time but would like some suggestions to help me not only get in shape but accelerate my progression with pole.

    Welcome to Studio Veena!

My first recommendation is that you try to find a studio in your area that teaches pole dance.  Obviously your progress will be faster when you have an instructor by your side, who can spot you safely and correct your technique as you learn.  However, if that is not possible, or you're uncomfortable trying this in a class environment; than the lessons here are really fantastic.  Buy a pole (you can buy one of the best professional and removeable poles on the market here as well), and sign up for Veena's lessons.  She has lessons on strengthening and conditioning, and is very safety concious.  The lessons progress you from simple holds and spins all the way to advanced poses.

As well, you have all the rest of us members at your fingertips for advice, inspiration, and anything else you can think of.

Thanks dustbunny! I actually have a stationary pole already, and plan on buying the veena lessons once I know where my energy level is going to be after work and the fitness class. 🙂 Hoping that I can use this to build confidence before going to a Studio. And as supplement to studio work once I get started.

If your planning on taking the lessons Kgarner, then you don't have to worry about where to start or what to work on next. I have designed the lessons to go in order and take you from very beginner (no experience or fitness background needed) with strength building included all the way to advanced! Be sure to watch all of the "Getting Started" Lessons for each section, first. These videos have important info on how to use the lessons and how to structure your pole sessions. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
